Well, I fault him for leaving out a crafts fair in the Spring. It is one of the funniest things I’ve ever read. Imagine Lenin sending a note like that to Stalin. Potlatch, Comrade Stalin. How horrorshow is that? Boogie like we’ve never boogied before. MLK to the SCLC. Like I say, it’s definitely a [...]

What I find amusing is that the New York Times was all over Gene Sharp during the “Arab Spring” news cycle. Suddenly, no one remembers old Gene’s name. I figure nobody wants to look the #Occupy movement over to see how it shapes up as effective resistance to a “dictatorship.”

We have to make sure Jane Hamsher saves some of the supplyoccupy money to buy gifts for the potlatch. But maybe the guy is on to something. Think of the lives could have been saved if we’d had a Mission Accomplished potlatch in 2003 and come home.

The Canadian magazine publisher who kicked off Occupy Wall Street has decided it’s time to declare victory and get out.  Kalle Lasn told The Guardian he thinks the #Occupy movement should pack it in for the winter.   Robert Mackey summarized Lasn’s amusing ideas at The Lede.

    We declare “victory” and throw a party… a festival… a potlatch… a jubilee… a [...]

I appreciate your willingness after these six arduous days to remain here, for I know well the sleepless hours which you and I have had. I regret that I am late, but I have no control over the winds of Heaven and could only be thankful for my Navy training. The appearance before a National [...]

  • I never paid the slightest attention to Obama’s campaign promises. Get it now? Or are you going to spend the rest of your life lamenting every instance in which that wiley Obamaman gulls you?

We’ve been getting more and more sophisticated about conserving American lives when we project power, starting with ending the draft and recruiting a high-tech volunteer military. Desert Storm was a walkover. Kosovo and Libya were accomplished with zero US casualities. The success of the latest formula portends more and better remote warfare, using American (or NATO)intelligence, targeting, drones and airpower in support of rebels all over the world. We live in marvelous times.

The WMD were irrelevant, and I wasn’t anxious to hit Iraq. Personally, I thought the pursuit of al Qaeda was the proper response. But, considering the region and Hussein’s game of chicken, I thought knocking his regime down would have positive results. As I recall, by the time we’d finished searching Iraq for WMD and [...]

I’d say Vietnam was the one really not worth it. And I think it’s clear the status of forces agreement was offered for the convenience of the Iraqi government — though we probably encouraged them to turn it down. Whether Hussein had WMD was entirely beside the point, wasn’t it? Tell you the truth, I [...]

Guess I’m just not as smart as you are. But I’ll vote for you next time you run for President. Will that redeem me?

  • Do you really not know how status of forces agreements work and whom they benefit? They benefit both governments. Take the US/German status of forces agreement after WWII. The German constitution prohibited the German government from wire-tapping and invading the privacy of German citizens. So we did it for them, with impugnity, under the status of forces agreement. Looks to me like the Iraqis just decided they don’t need or want our help the way the Germans did. So it’s okay for us to leave.

  • All the fact that the Iraqis wouldn’t immunize our troops means is that the Iraqis don’t need us to violate their citizens’ civil rights for them under a status of forces agreement. They figure they can do that on their own.

Reuters is reporting that President Obama has decided to end the occupation of Iraq this year . The announcement is guaranteed to set off a chorus of voices in the progressive blogosphere, lamenting the lives that were wasted in the war and the occupation that followed.  My take is that only people who oppose all wars as a waste [...]

Yeah. And maybe a little more conscience. And then there is China. But, actually, I’m trying to understand why the Bushes are working hard against Perry right now. There has always been a tension between the proponents of cheap energy and people who profit from tight and expensive energy. I think Obama, Romney, the Bushes [...]

Consider this. Income and wealth disparity at an all time high. People becoming unemployable at 50. Permanent unemployment and underemployment around 16%. And we’re sitting here contemplating the fact that Obama might get re-elected, and, if he doesn’t, another Wall Street candidate will. What does that tell you about the future prospects of the undereducated, [...]

He is indeed. Arkansas may play in the Southeastern Conference now, but Arkansas belongs where True Grit and Lonesome Dove put it, in the Southwest. Clinton was a cowboy, not a farmer.
