    Two things:
Roseanne Barr is probably closer to 100-millionaire status than Ann Althouse is.

Nurses are chided when we mention adequate compensation for our labors. We’re supposed to derive satisfaction from our work. If we do not derive adequate satisfaction from our holy work, we are to understand that many folks are willing to work for much less than us. I submit that stands for our Galtian Overlords. Are we still calling them Galtian Overlords?

Hey! When I typed that, it was in paragraphs. The hell?

    2 things:
First, as a nurse of (too many) my eyes got all trickly watching gabby Giffords WALK! into the House to vote one the POS bill. I was proud of her, and more proud of a large number of people who have worked very, very hard to acquire the skills that allowed her to recover. God had way less influence over her recovery than did Florence Nightengale and the principals of asepsis. Ms. Giffords strength brought her back to where she is, but it took a lot of people to keep her strong.

Second, and corollary to the above, Fuck You, “ersatz ‘libertarian”gawd-supplicating over-populating with dumbfucks Stephen”. You dare to come to ME and my colleagues crying “I tried to take out my appendix in the chicken coop, now SAVE ME!” Those hard working folks did save him, and now he doesn’t want to pay them, because he spent all the money on a butter churn. Fuck you again. If you want to be a libertarian god botherer (how does that work?) and live in the 19th century, then let God and the free market cure your peritonitis. Don’t ask me to do it for nearly free.

Seriously, Stephen isn’t even negotiating with the people who saved his wretched life. He’s negotiating with some administrator two or three steps removed from them. The administrator doesn’t even know what the surgeons and nurses and therapists and anesthesiologists do- only the RVU payout for it. Go ahead, Stephen. Ask the anesthesiologist if she’ll work for 10 cents on the dollar because your lifestyle choices don’t include planning for the inevitable. This pisses me off, obviously. A national health system, into which everybody pays and from which everybody benefits, including me, because I’ll get paid, is socialism. But poor-mouthing and stiffing the folks WHO SAVED YOUR SORRY ASS is the work of the Lord on earth.

I mean it. How can you be a Christian Libertarian? Does not compute.

Sorry for the all caps. They substitute for facial expressions and hand gestures.

I fully intended to vote for McCain for precisely those reasons, especially the “Republicans get the blame and reap the results” part. Then I was struck with a vision of President Palin in her fuck-me pumps because that old man hadn’t hired a food taster. And I voted for Obama, knowing that this scenario would be the result. I don’t hold so much animosity toward the guy as some seem to. He’s faced considerably more opposition than any other president I can remember, and I can remember Lyndon Johnson. He’s also gotten considerably less support. “Obama’s a sell out” started in February of 2009, as I recall. Maybe even January, with that bone-headed inauguration preacher thing. After the midterm elections, I imagine the guy’s got a strong sense of “Fuck it. If this is what you guys want, this is what you get.”

Ok. I get it. Obama has let you down, and you want a third party. So stop fucking whining and get busy. What’re you going to call your party? Who gets to be a member of your party? Who will you run as a candidate? How the fuck do you expect to elect this person? The election is 15 months away. Stop bitching. Get busy.

  • “Real Americans don’t go to midnight movies because they have to get up and go to work in the morning.”

Makes perfect sense to me. Everybody who has ever raised one knows that children and adolescents (the ones flocking to see Harry Potter) are not Real Americans; same goes for retired folks, who think they’re entitled to Social Security and Medicare. Not to mention Somnambulists–

Also, too, real American night shift nurses and doctors and associated medical workers and cops and garbage truck drivers, and supermarket workers, etc, ad nauseum. I realize I am being overly sensitive here, but I’m fucking sick of 70% of the population falling outside of the boundaries of “Real.”

And in the girl-kid’s defense, when I was 5, my mom made matching dresses for me and my favorite doll. It’s common, and it’s touching. My dad did not put us on a national stage. That’s inexcusable.

Who? Who are these rubes that will send this loser money? And why won’t they send me money first?

I guess I understand running for president so you can hoover up all that sweet PAC money. I don’t understand who is giving money to the Santorum for President PAC. Surely no one thinks he has a chance at this?

Yowzuh. I made it to about 4:25, then noticed smoke coming from my ears. A few comments:

The thing in the background is an upscale stacked washer-dryer combo.

I cooked like that with my mother and grandmother in the 60′s and 70′s, and taught my kids how to cook in the aughts. McMegan completely ignores that her grandmother had a helper or two to shell the nuts and grease the pans. You could call it child labor, but it was more like apprenticeship for adulthood.

Helpless dependance upon machines and products is not really a good thing.

It takes just as much time to buy the spray and clean the food processor as it does smear some butter and sift some flour. Megan has confused convenience with economy.

If this is what passes for sound reasoning in this country, I fucking give up. We are doomed.

I see it every day. All the time. The hostility, the anger. I can’t imagine what it feels like to bef a woman who need to club something to death because it will piss someone else off. You can’t sustain that kind of anger. Eventually, it’ll choke you. She has what she wants- cheesy fame, lots of money. What the fuck? Why does she need to piss people off? What does she get from it?

Yeah- also Blumenauer’s district. I live in the People’s Republic of Buckman. I can take public transportation to a world class symphony- YoYo Ma tonight!!- and at the same time I can walk to 2 different Powell’s, and grow my own fruit and greens and eggs and potatoes in my own yard. It’s still a good place to live, as long as the 51%-49% election breaks hold out. I work in a rural county upriver from us, and it’s a little pocket of Appalachia right here in Cascadia. Lots of meth, poverty, unemployment and fundieism, usually in the same personality.

Jeebus. I mean that quite literally- Jeebus, save me from your followers. Where in Oregon do you live? Because I provide prenatal care and birth control in a public health clinic and I think I know these people.

I don’t get it. It the pissy hostility supposed to endear her to me? Who’s the target market here? Who finds this attractive?
