Thanks Jon. Younger folks understand that cuts to SS just increase the likelihood that their parents will have to move in with them.

WRT “gardening” imho Bright Agrotech’s aquaponic towers are cutting edge. They claim that growing “vertically” increases their yield. These guys are trying to make a profit, but they’re organic and from everything I’ve seen, very responsible. Anyone interested in food security can get good stuff out of their detailed and accessible youtubes. Apologies if it’s not [...]

Alice, thanks for putting the numbers in context.
As you know, US GDP in 2010 was around $14.5 trillion. This is “real” money.

emma, thanks very much. This is very good news. Unfortunately, I think it’s just a reflection of the influence of the Prison-industrial-complex and the anti-choice folks dominating the GOP. Dead prisoners don’t bring in any revenue. They also don’t bring government funds into the county in which the jail is located. IMHO, anti-choice folks see [...]

Thanks Norman. Just Tweeted a link to my rep, Gwen Moore, Mark Pocan (Madison) and 700+ followers. Moore and Pocan are in super-safe Dem seats, no excuse for them not leading on this.

A big factor in cities is the quality of the soil. If there’s mercury or other heavy metals in it, you don’t want stuff grown in it to be in the food chain. Although it’s counter-intuitive, 350.org’s Bill McKibben, along with a lot other people has been pushing Biochar , the pyrolysis of biomass. I’m not equally [...]

I think in the early stages, vertical farms will be in old warehouses and require a lot of manual labor.
Later, I think they’ll be highly automated.
Reasonable can disagree about whether they will actually be built in the Great Lakes.
