It is by far overused especially with non-state groups or individuals. It neglects to mention state terrorism. Ruth Blakeley has a great book I’m read for class now on this.

Thanks Jeff, I figured it was just out of Russia based on the AFP report.

  • Snowden also sought out Greenwald. He sought out Poitras. He sought out Gellman. He did not send the material to the media organizations so it could be assigned to any national security reporter. And so, the level of care, dedication, integrity, and spirit in which these stories were produced for the public are the result of key individual efforts that worked in a coalition to bring out the truth.

I had not thought of that. Good point. Informative article as always Kevin.

Hey Kit, love the video! Growing up in the right-wing libertarian thinking (thankfully temporarily and just enough for me to ditch it in favor of socialism), I heard of Alex Jones. I never understood his appeal and found the video to be spot on with Jones’ right-wing conspiracies. I just can’t take any of his [...]

I keep liking the links I post from Western officials on Russia. It ranges from the bizarre to the most difficult to believe. It is no wonder why the media has a poor track record on this as they rely so much on government officials, they might as well hand the pen to them.

Anytime, I thought it was a good point as well. Hadn’t thought of it.

  • Glad to see this today. I really liked the part on the different religions, there were things I didn’t even know of so it was informative.

Side note though, I sent my letter to John recently and got it back since I needed an extra stamp, rather than one. I’ve sent my previous two letters with one stamp, but this one required another one for no reason given. That really annoyed me.

Thanks! I heard it on Pandora and thought it was a definite choice.

Woah, what happened there? I saw Iceland and all and I put in Sweden. That was definitely a mistake on my part. Sincere apologies. Thanks for the clarification.

I’m sure that shows how much I know on geography.

My best friend has a picture of George Carlin on his wall.

From what I could take on this decision, the owners do have control of our land. But we still have the power for sure. With folks like Carlin to influence us, the possibilities are endless.

  • Thank you for this Kevin. I thought of writing a post on veterans, but you did a far better job than I would have done.

Both Caputi and Reyes are concerned about the respect and “hero treatment” that society shows them when they return home. Because, what did they do? Why should the next generation revere them as heroes and follow in their footsteps by becoming warriors in the next generation of American wars and occupations?

Everywhere I go, the “support our troops” slogan suddenly comes up on this issue. It is absolutely pathetic. I had an event in high school where one commander told us they made bullets out of the World Trade Center to kill every single enemy and he was proud when he said it to the auditorium full of high schoolers. They all clapped.

War is just artificial and unnatural to these soldiers. Celebrating them is celebrating war. We should celebrate their life, but our society promotes death as something only for the “Other.”

    Thanks again Kevin.

Thanks everyone for your comments over the past two days. I haven’t been able to respond as much as possible (especially Friday) to all comments. Fridays and Saturdays I work in Manhattan from 12 to 6 and have to take an hour+ train ride back home. I’m surprised Friday Roundups haven’t been criticized since I worry the most on that with me gunning to publish it quick when I come home. Looks like I was fretting for no reason.

Thanks again everyone. I think I’m doing it correctly now. Glad you enjoyed the Roundup, but I must acknowledge Elliot helps out too with it by editing!

I agree. I like posting a few mainstream media stories to understand why it was chosen and how it’s framed. I don’t like omitting it completely since it’s key to understanding what’s covered and what’s not.

  • I’m sure pro-occupation folks are like that, even “established” ones. Someone has to let the elites call out the ruling ideas.

Good point. I’ve been following the advice of one reader who said to focus a lot on one section some days, to change it up a bit.

I’ve realized there’s so much news, so I omit a few things that I think I repeated or aren’t long enough or I forget.

    Will do Kit!

  • Considering John Schindler knows much on Russia as a rock, this doesn’t surprise me.

Russia was plagued by neo-liberal capitalist shocks by Jeffery Sachs and co., making a country filled with despair and organized crime. Now we have to emulate neo-liberal paradise according to a wannabe-professor?

This is what I support students challenging and correcting professors with no credibility.
