Cindi Burkey wrote a new diary post: Reply To PublicCEO.com’s Occupy-Bashing; Audio
Click here to hear my reading of, and rantings about, an article linked below on the PublicCeo.com website. Here’s the article: Why Ending The Occupation Would Help The 99 Percent I’m still waiting! Did “ending” the “occupation” “help” any of us? ..Especially on the things that sent us out to protest in the first place? Well, let’s [...]

Cindi Burkey wrote a new diary post: Is NPR Banging War Drum? -A Listener Response
Is NPR Banging The Drum For War With Iran? Thousands of NPR listeners were furious at a line that appeared in a Tom Gjelten story about Iran. The objection was to a line in the story in which Gjelten said: “And remember, the ultimate goal for the US and its allies is to convince Iran to [...]

Cindi Burkey commented on the diary post Climate Change Is Here by wbgonne.
There were genuine progressives in government in 2007? I agree with pretty much everything you said here, including that it doesn’t seem like people are much more serious about it now than in 1983. However, Obama’s the guy in the big kahuna chair right now, or at least he’s one of the people running things, [...]

Cindi Burkey commented on the diary post In Aid of Bradley Manning…and Our Nation’s Moral Soul by wendydavis.
Thanks for writing about Bradley Manning. He was really the tipping point for me. I have a prayer candle, the kind without the images, just plain glass, with “Free Bradley” on it and it’s in the window every night burning. We have photos of him all over the house, stuck on the fridge, in random [...]

Cindi Burkey commented on the diary post Letter To LAPD Cmdr. Andy Smith; Police And Protesters, And Muckraking by Cindi Burkey.
I’m definitely not mellow, so don’t worry about harshing anything! As a matter of fact—I’m harsh today. People yelling and jeering in public is one thing, you just stand with your people and ignore them. But here in Media-land outside the circle of sanity, or energy, or solidarity, or shared enthusiasm, dedication, whatever–the world looks [...]

Cindi Burkey wrote a new diary post: Letter To LAPD Cmdr. Andy Smith; Police And Protesters, And Muckraking
There’s a post featuring a letter from LAPD Commander Andy Smith on Ron Kaye’s blog, RonKayeLA.com; I posted a letter to Cmdr. Smith there, which is below, regarding Occupy L.A. I posted this because I just don’t hear the kind of outrage that seems warranted by how these people were treated. I mean—there was all this love [...]

Cindi Burkey commented on the diary post Will Killing Redevelopment Agencies Really Mean More Money For California’s Schools? by Cindi Burkey.
Thanks Beachpopulist for that information…you are much more well-informed than anyone I’ve spoken to about this! I found this link to a 24-page report that spells out all the convolutions and problems with Redevelopment. http://www.coalitionforredevelopmentreform.org/references/morrreport.php When GB started talking about taking away RDA’s it was unbelievable the furor that started up. I can’t remember the [...]

“Wry smiles, a few shaken heads”
….Not clear on the concept yet, those city council people…
They are like all those other people who sincerely believe..I guess…that if we just vote right, things will work out eventually.
I wish there were fewer people thinking like that.
You guys are awesome. Be careful in that cold.

Originally posted here: http://exiledinhollywood.blogspot.com/2012/01/will-killing-redevelopment-agencies.html School officials don’t seem to know the answer to this. Some are hopeful: Local School Districts May Benefit From Abolishing Redevelopment Agencies –San Diego Others, cynical: San Bernardino-area School Administrators Say They Doubt That’s The Case I guess you can’t fault school officials for saying, “We’ll believe the money when we see it.” After [...]

Cindi Burkey commented on the diary post Above all, Be Civil by tambershall.
Respectful disagreement is something you don’t see much of on the airwaves anymore, but it’s really necessary. If people don’t hear other people talking respectfully about politics, they won’t know how it sounds. That’s why talk radio hosts who are disrespectful towards those who disagree, while they may be successful, are terrible role models for [...]

This is why I’d really like to see police, firefighters and all public safety workers engaged on these issues while not in uniform. If that’s at all possible. A lot of these people face the same problems other workers do; they’re employees and many are union people fighting to hold onto each dollar/benefit. The media’s [...]

Cindi Burkey commented on the blog post “Corporations Are Not People” in Ninth Circuit Ruling
I would have to disagree, speaking personally… think it’s pretty interesting! Guy writes in letters: “It will be swift and bloody,”
..and, “I will sacrifice your children upon the altar of your excess.”..Then, loads up on guns & ammo, drives to a place where there’s a whole bunch of random people he plans to start shooting at…. and he didn’t commit a crime simply because no specific person was targeted?
In a practical, common-sense sorta way, I just find that really interesting.
And bizarre.
I can see other reasons to say no crime was committed, for example, that he stopped himself from doing this terrible thing, and turned himself in. To me that makes more sense, as a reason not to charge a person with a crime, than the idea that no specific person was targeted. -
Cindi Burkey commented on the diary post An open letter to Keith Olbermann by Jack Cluth.
Most TV and radio talkers these days aren’t much into respect…. Disrespect makes for better TV, apparently. It’s too bad about what it does to conversations among regular people who, when they turn to public issues in conversation, don’t have any better role models than the screamers and ranters. Then the ranters all listen to [...]
