Cindi Burkey commented on the diary post Over Easy: Friday Free for All by msmolly.
David Sirota LOL!! He filled in for Randi Rhodes last year on 9/11 and a woman called up in response to his “how do you talk to kids about 9/11?” topic. She started relating a story about how she goes into schools with a powerpoint presentation. She never said the words “inside job” –but as [...]

Cindi Burkey wrote a new diary post: Congratulations On Your Pay Cut! Or–Happy New Year SUCKAS, from Congress.
Originally posted here: http://exiledinhollywood.blogspot.com/2013/01/congratulations-on-your-pay-cut-happy.html YES—I got a pay cut, you got a pay cut, we all get pay cuts, not just the people making over 400K—despite the countless media reports saying the “Fiscal Cliff deal” will not raise taxes on middle income and working poor. The L.A. Times wrote about this, and there are differences [...]

Cindi Burkey commented on the diary post MSPB Watch Founder Sues FAA for Wrongfully Withholding Documents Detailing Whistleblower Retaliation by MSPB Watch.
This is why I don’t fly anymore. This, the aging jets, the underpaid and overworked pilots, and ….well, the train is just so much more fun, anyway.
As a guy on Amtrak said: “You can’t see much going 600 miles per hour, but going 80 you can see plenty.” -
Cindi Burkey commented on the blog post White House Memo Shows Clampdown on Leaks Moving Forward
Kevin, thank you for all your good work reporting on Brad Manning.
I’m not sure I think this memo is about him though, or about a culture of secrecy, though both these issues are real concerns. What concerns me is the language in the memo:
“These threats encompass potential espionage, violent acts against the Government or the Nation”
I don’t know what is going on, but this political machine is complex, multi-layered, and gnarly with post-election angst. -
Cindi Burkey commented on the blog post Bradley Manning Indicates He Would Accept Responsibility for Transferring Information to WikiLeaks
Thank you for your perspective. It’s very interesting. I feel it’s very important to remember that Manning is supported by other military men and women. The thing about the military is that it is not blameless, or always truthful, toward those who give their lives to it. The other thing about th military is that it’s made up of human beings.
I hope that enough of those human beings look at what Manning is accused of doing, and think, really think, about whether his alleged actions endangered them, or will eventually do the opposite. By leaking the helicopter video, Manning showed those willing or informed enough to look, what war sounds like and feels like. I don’t think he did it with an eye toward prosecuting those heard in the video, if he did do that. If what he said to Lamo in the chats is any indication, Manning wanted more people to know what was going on, so they could talk about it. Considering that it’s my tax dollars that are being spent on those wars, I appreciate all the information I can get. It is entirely possible that the release of that video will, in the long run, save lives. Many lives. The question is whether the judge believes justice is what will benefit the ordinary soldier and the American taxpayers, or what will benefit those actors who only want to continue to make war. And each of us taxpayers and oil consumers has a role, an active role, whether or not we want to own up to it.

Cindi Burkey commented on the blog post Voter Suppression In Action in Florida, Ohio Over the Weekend
You’re not mistaken, Dan Rather has a good program about this on HDnet from last year. Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands (iirc) went back to pencil and paper. Millions and millions of dollars worth of “high tech” computer voting machines are sitting in warehouses over there. Don’t forget U.S. taxpayers funded the move to electronic voting machines. Ain’t democracy grand!!

Cindi Burkey commented on the blog post Reuters Reporter’s Hit Job on a Recent Report on US Drone Strikes in Pakistan
Overheard someone the other day say she knows someone who operates the drones for a living (including wiping people out). She said he works all the time and drinks when he’s not working.
But hey we have to keep the economy moving right. -
Cindi Burkey wrote a new diary post: Glenn Beck, Brandon Raub, and The Boiling Frog
Original post here: http://exiledinhollywood.blogspot.com/2012/08/glenn-beck-brandon-raub-and-boiling-frog.html Glenn Beck on Brandon Raub, Occupy Beck thinks Raub and Occupy are different things, apparently..he maybe never saw Occupy Marines’ facebook page, or heard of the Winter Soldiers. One person on his page comments that if the FBI “went after” the “Black Panthers” (where? who? seriously?!) that there would be “cries of [...]

Click here to hear my reading of, and rantings about, an article linked below on the PublicCeo.com website. Here’s the article: Why Ending The Occupation Would Help The 99 Percent I’m still waiting! Did “ending” the “occupation” “help” any of us? ..Especially on the things that sent us out to protest in the first place? Well, let’s [...]

Cindi Burkey wrote a new diary post: Is NPR Banging War Drum? -A Listener Response
Is NPR Banging The Drum For War With Iran? Thousands of NPR listeners were furious at a line that appeared in a Tom Gjelten story about Iran. The objection was to a line in the story in which Gjelten said: “And remember, the ultimate goal for the US and its allies is to convince Iran to [...]

Cindi Burkey commented on the diary post Climate Change Is Here by wbgonne.
There were genuine progressives in government in 2007? I agree with pretty much everything you said here, including that it doesn’t seem like people are much more serious about it now than in 1983. However, Obama’s the guy in the big kahuna chair right now, or at least he’s one of the people running things, [...]

Cindi Burkey commented on the diary post In Aid of Bradley Manning…and Our Nation’s Moral Soul by wendydavis.
Thanks for writing about Bradley Manning. He was really the tipping point for me. I have a prayer candle, the kind without the images, just plain glass, with “Free Bradley” on it and it’s in the window every night burning. We have photos of him all over the house, stuck on the fridge, in random [...]

Cindi Burkey commented on the diary post Letter To LAPD Cmdr. Andy Smith; Police And Protesters, And Muckraking by Cindi Burkey.
I’m definitely not mellow, so don’t worry about harshing anything! As a matter of fact—I’m harsh today. People yelling and jeering in public is one thing, you just stand with your people and ignore them. But here in Media-land outside the circle of sanity, or energy, or solidarity, or shared enthusiasm, dedication, whatever–the world looks [...]

Cindi Burkey wrote a new diary post: Letter To LAPD Cmdr. Andy Smith; Police And Protesters, And Muckraking
There’s a post featuring a letter from LAPD Commander Andy Smith on Ron Kaye’s blog, RonKayeLA.com; I posted a letter to Cmdr. Smith there, which is below, regarding Occupy L.A. I posted this because I just don’t hear the kind of outrage that seems warranted by how these people were treated. I mean—there was all this love [...]

Cindi Burkey commented on the diary post Will Killing Redevelopment Agencies Really Mean More Money For California’s Schools? by Cindi Burkey.
Thanks Beachpopulist for that information…you are much more well-informed than anyone I’ve spoken to about this! I found this link to a 24-page report that spells out all the convolutions and problems with Redevelopment. http://www.coalitionforredevelopmentreform.org/references/morrreport.php When GB started talking about taking away RDA’s it was unbelievable the furor that started up. I can’t remember the [...]

Cindi Burkey commented on the diary post Occupy Erie: Like Sled Dogs after a Blizzard by Mentatmark.
“Wry smiles, a few shaken heads”
….Not clear on the concept yet, those city council people…
They are like all those other people who sincerely believe..I guess…that if we just vote right, things will work out eventually.
I wish there were fewer people thinking like that.
You guys are awesome. Be careful in that cold.
