c387 commented on the blog post Americans Want Bigger Role for Government in Health Care
It’s interesting that conservatives think nothing of “socialist” govt. police care, fire department care, public roads and schools, but get scared of our tax dollars helping people survive with health care. Our govt. has yet to figure out — and I don’t think they ever will — that unless they work harder at keeping us alive, which includes some type of single-payer health care, and more generous bennies for disabled and elderly people, that there won’t be enough that they’ll earn in taxes to keep this country running.

Great point, Margaret. It sure isn’t health care reform, it’s legislation to guarantee profits for the mostly-unregulated insurance companies with guaranteed no-competition from a public option.

Subtitle F: Universal Coverage – Requires each citizen or lawful permanent resident to be covered under a qualified health plan or equivalent health care program by January 1, 2005.
Any proposal that sticks with our current dependence on for-profit private insurers … will not be sustainable. And the new law will not get us to universal coverage …. — T.R. Reid, The Healing of America
