catch22oy commented on the blog post NC Pastor Charles ‘put gays behind electric fence to die’ Worley now under media microscope
Chris Hedges often puts a damper on the idea of an advance towards human perfection. We never were and never will be perfect, although we have improved greatly.
Now I’m afraid that we are seeing in all spheres a regression, a coarsening of values, and a slide into ingnorance. I hope I’m wrong.

I am the most anti-immigrant person I know of. Everybody who isn’t Native American should go back to where they came from. And take their smallpox with them.

Great listing of a few of the women who helped changed the world. If only the Democratic Party had a Fannie Lou Hamer now! Mother Theresa doesn’t belong in the video except for her tireless self-promotion.
My late mom nurtured me and changed my destiny from the hopeless path I was on. Love you mom.

Thanks for adding “The Incorrigibles” to the political lexicon. The others were getting old and no longer descriptive.

catch22oy commented on the diary post Just Released! Lord of the Shears by marymccurnin.
The “Ugly American” from the book of the same, was a warm-hearted, practical farmer type who, with his wife helped natives in a fictional Asian country with wells, etc. He was ugly, but the best character in the novel. But I agree with your characterization of Americans. On the whole, we’re stupid and superstitous, too.

catch22oy commented on the blog post Occupy Doesn’t Need to Get With the Vote
Ralph Nader has been given a bad rap for years. Subsequent vote-counting has shown that Al Gore won Florida. The initial Bush “victory” could just as easily be blamed on those who voted for the Socialist Worker’s Party. In the end, Gore lost by one vote in the SCOTUS. Leave Ralph alone.

The armored police are prepared for guns, but super-soakers would short out the Tasers.

I, and the rest of the civilized world, am amazed at the idea of concealed handguns. I would prefer that they be worn in holsters like the cowboy movies.

Thanks for sharing on FDL. We all need your insights and proclivity to stick it to the “business” press and other ne’er-do-wells.

Hey, I had a leisure suit in the ’70s ! Two, actually, one lime green and the other a robin’s egg blue. I have a 6yr car that looks new. When I moved South a few years ago I decided that all the decals had to go. Knowing Knoxville, I was afraid my car would [...]

I’m not a native Southerner, but, “bless his heart” is reserved for those for which you have at least a LITTLE affection, regardless of their mental incapacities. As I would say, FUCK George Will and the media that allows such mediocrities to spout the same horsehit every Sunday.

catch22oy commented on the blog post Drone Protesters Preemptively Arrested Before Reaching Hancock Air Force Base
Just for the heck of it I’ve sent a couple of emails (encouraging peace and reconciliation, etc.) to the The Iranian Ambassador to the U.N. So far, no knock on the door in the middle of the night, but I wanted to be listed with other nice people.

Protest marches are commendable, but if you want voice your concerns against government policies, just speak clearly into your cell phone.

catch22oy commented on the blog post US, Afghanistan Reach Initial Agreement on Continued US Occupation
I know that I’m being extremely naive here, but didn’t “agreements” with other countries used be called “Treaties”? I read somewhere that these “Treaties” had to be approved by the Senate. Silly me.

Yes, the Repugs have made no secret of wanting only bad news for us before the election. When people work so militantly against the American people, we usually call them traitors.

catch22oy commented on the blog post Late Night FDL: Escatology Is Scatology
Very intersting. Must have been a long list. I understand that, since Jesus said that those he was speaking to would witness the end of the world, the myth of the Wandering Jew was born. He would live until the end times. This gives truth to Jesus’ predictions.

catch22oy commented on the blog post Late Night FDL: Escatology Is Scatology
Lisa’s headline gives the correct answer to the Mayan 2012 thing. But such an answer might offend Apocolyptic Christians, Messianic Jews, and other nut jobs. The end times will come when tax cuts, wars and austerity programs cause us to begin eating our own dead to stay alive.
