CathiefromCanada commented on the blog post Thursday Night Basset Blogging
In Readers Digest once there was an anecdote about a kindly nature-lover who started throwing a little kibble to the racoons that visited his cabin nightly.
So one evening he got home late and discovered he was out of kibble and he thought he could just ignore the racoons that came around that night.
Well, I don’t remember what they did, but he ended up cooking pancakes for the racoons at midnight.
Please, don’t read this story to Fenway and Wembley — it might give them ideas! -
CathiefromCanada commented on the blog post A Sound Of Blunder
There is so much BS from republicans in the US media these days that I feel like we’re living in the middle of an Emily Litella op-ed. But we never ever will hear them say “never mind”.

I’m sure your apology will be accepted in the gracious spirit of the new civility world order which we are all devoutly hoping will begin any day now, as Rush and Sarah lead America along the gold brick road toward the shining city on the hill.
Don’t anybody look behind the curtain. -

Margaret Atwood wrote the book on this attitude — The Handmaid’s Tale.
When I read it 30 years ago, I thought there was no possible way that the United States could ever turn into the kind of authoritarian, fascist, anti-feminist society she described…. -
CathiefromCanada commented on the blog post The Looming Republican Blackmail Over the Debt Limit
Failure to raise the debt limit may be something the Treasury Department can paper over for a little while, but aside from some essential government functions shutting down, it runs the risk of eventual default or just a loss in confidence from investors. The effects could be catastrophic. That’s the kind of grenade McConnell and the Republicans like to have in their hands. They’re going to want something in return for not blowing up the entire global economy. Nobody yet knows what that will be.
I hope America realizes that the world is not going to put up with this shit for much longer. If you want the American dollar to remain the world’s currency, you’re going to have to act like adults. Otherwise, we’ll all move to the Euro and to hell with you.

CathiefromCanada commented on the blog post Before The Deluge
I have come to the conclusion that the congressional Democrats are going to be so happy on Tuesday.
After a four-year national nightmare of productive and progressive legislative sessions, they’re going to lose control of the House of Representatives on Tuesday. This means they can breathe a sign of relief because they won’t be responsible anymore for how bad things are.
And with any luck, the Dems will retain the Senate, so then the Republicans won’t have to accept any responsibility either for doing anything whatsoever about how bad things are.
Win-win.
