Dakinikat commented on the blog post RIP Richard de Berry, AKA Southern Dragon
Just visited his Facebook page and the memorial over there is lengthy and beautiful. I just know that wherever there is good fight that he will be there on the front line.

Dakinikat commented on the blog post Pat Robertson reminisces about the days when wife beating was A-OK
Pat Robertson never fails to find the most disgusting things to say about nearly everything. People who send him money should be ashamed of themselves.

Newt Gingrich is a serial adulterer and worthy of consideration and that’s in the top ten no nos… only women’s rights and gay rights are so appalling that it’s worthy of an all out assault. Our home grown religious extremists sure are selective about what appalls them.

One of my friends said her cheeky son asked it where he could find prostitutes and it came up with a list a mile long. It also responds with a lengthy list to “where can i get viagra” and “where can I bury a dead body”. Another reason–besides the appalling working conditions of the factories [...]

The John Birch Society tried to convince every on that Ike was a commie. Those people are in charge of the media and the Republican party now.

Dakinikat commented on the blog post WaPo Front-Page Journalistic Malpractice on Social Security Draws Backlash
Given the numbers that show overwhelming support for the program by even tea party people and republicans, I can’t imagine any politician trying to eviscerate social security being returned to office.

Dakinikat commented on the blog post WaPo Front-Page Journalistic Malpractice on Social Security Draws Backlash
There is no reason for social security to compete with other tax revenues because it’s not in the same category or legal situation as defense spending or anything that’s directly on budget.
Social Security is a long age insurance annuity. It is a basic savings plan. It’s not like a tax that goes to a battleship or a road you never use personally. It’s an account and a plan paid for and owned by a particular beneficiary.
Saying something like that is just obfuscation.

Nevertheless, as with the Tea Party supporters, those who were present generally agreed that the government had unconstitutionally overstepped what should be the limits of its power; health care reform and the bank bailouts took the worst oratorical beating. But other grievances varied from speaker to speaker. Eric Stinnett, an engineer from Alabama, lambasted everything from school lunches to PBS. Others called for a complete congressional revamping. “We’re here to tell you something, guys: You’re fired!” said Larry Pratt, executive director for Gun Owners of America, pointing across the river. (See pictures of the AK-47.)

I just think it’s funny that they didn’t have their tightie whities in a knot when the tea baggers showed up to their rallies with guns. I certainly didn’t see police arresting any of them.

Dakinikat commented on the diary post Earth to Democrats: It’s Not Just the Tea-GOP Trying to Tank the Economy. Obama Believes Their Argument. by Scarecrow.
I’ve been one doing that forever and I said all this prior to the 2008 primary too. It’s out there and it’s been out there. Many of us said that the stimulus was too small and it looks like Romer, Summers, and likely Orzag even told the President that. Actually, we know Romer did. Many [...]

Dakinikat commented on the blog post Baucus Gives Away the Game: Medicare Cuts in Debt Limit Deal
That’s what the Republican strategy is basically. Insist on tanking the Economy and know that Obama will go along with it. Then, blame Obama the Socialist for the problems and insist that none of this would happen if the Republican nominee is elected President. Then, Democrats run on the platform of we where forced to do it … same playbook, endlessly. Obama runs on the I’m less evil and more sane than the Republican nominee. It’s like feedback loop.

Almost makes one nostalgic for Nixon. He’d be a “progressive” democrat under these current circumstances. Democrats are ripping up his EPA, just to name one example.

This is like watching some one who has never gone to med school do surgery or some one defend a death row case who has never gone to law school. These people have no idea what they are doing to the economy or to the financial system in this country. It’s basically the case of the inmates running the insane asylum. Their delusions frame the debate.

The maps they released that showed those risks are quite low although every one seems to take those maps as an indication that the worst was going to happen. Their risk analysis showed it clearly was an extremely low probability. The only high risks were to the closings of industries and shipping for about a [...]

That’s probably true for the people with vacation homes or fishing camps but most of the people living in this area are from families and land that pre-date the Mississippi levee systems. The cities which contain newer residents are behind levees. Plus, the Morganza is rarely opened. They don’t let people buy in the Bonnet [...]

It’s hard for me to think in terms of flooding people out of their homes, ruining wild life habitat, and destroying crops and small businesses for lower oil prices. But then, we’ve invaded countries and killed US soldiers and Iraqi citizens for about as much so I know we measure lives and livelihoods in terms [...]

The flooding that has occurred in Memphis and in Mississippi has occured outside the Mississippi Levee system with the exception of the levee the Corp blew up to save Cairo, IL. They’re dealing with the same pressures and flooding that Louisiana. There was no inference that there would be levee failure or topping there. That’s [...]
