Daniel Marks commented on the diary post National Recovery in 4 Points by Daniel Marks.
This is exactly what the founders wanted us to do when the Federal government becomes corrupt. I believe this wasn’t supposed to be something we did every 250 years, but rather every 25. The fact that Congress has never bothered to count these applications has been a perpetual check on our convention. There are only [...]

First of all, we need amendments and it is our Constitution to determine what is right for us. Congress is a career. This is a call for a meeting. There is no long term future in being a delegate. The people that are eligible are those not in any other government office. They would need [...]

They are nearly powerless. Considering the convention would take 66% to pass anything, and then suffer the trial of ratification of 75% of the states, the only thing big money can do is obstruct good things from happening. When congress wanted to end prohibition, it chose to ratify the amendment by state conventions, the only [...]

This is a talkshoe program we did recently to help explain what is happening and why there is little option left for Congress. There is no response that will not result in a Convention soon. If Congress only counts 10 states, we will get the other 24 and they will be counted. This could be [...]

My previous post explains more about the action we are taking with the Clerk of the US House of Representatives.

Daniel Marks wrote a new diary post: National Recovery in 4 Points
We need to come to grips with the futility of our current efforts to put our government on the right course. We are becoming serfs of a corporate oligarchy. Our nation needs repair. We need to remember what being American is all about. The Problem: Our government is broken. This point is obvious, we all understand that our government is unable to pay its [...] -

Yes we are very serious about this. Great comment.

What Koch amendment is popular enough to get everyone elected to the convention to advocate for it? To fear the unknown and forsake the potential for good is not how you resolve our nation’s problems. That approach will only give the Kochs a greater advantage.

This hasn’t reached a political process yet. This is bureaucracy, the snake that eats its own tail. Please support this request for an official tally of applications by the Clerk of the House of Representatives. You may write a letter in support to the address above or contact the Clerk’s office by phone at (202) [...]

I also wanted to add that the Congressional Research Service is also aware of this action. I sent a copy of the letter to Thomas Neale too. The letter takes action on their conclusion as well. The report is dry but you get an official peek at what is about to unfold. “With well over [...]

The only thing that makes me think that this will work was that the House Parliamentarian told me it should. He is watching over this process too. We can also file a writ of mandamus to compel action. They will find it very hard to ignore everyone. I don’t expect anything quickly.

Daniel Marks wrote a new diary post: Congress needs to Comply with State Demands for Article V Constitutional Convention
Since the very beginning of our nation’s history, our states have applied for a convention to propose amendments under Article V of the Constitution. It requires two-thirds of the states to apply for Congress to call it. Congress never has, yet the states keep applying. In fact, states have applied for a convention more than 700 [...] -

I knew this would happen in November and wrote about it then. http://my.firedoglake.com/danielmarks/2012/11/14/the-fiscal-cliff-impacts-you/ The answer is a vast amount of democratic input. Not voting, we need a convention to amend our Constitution, and We the People need to build consensus as we approach that convention so our will drives the outcome. We need to crowdsource [...]

Admittedly it is a blurb announcement. However I thought it was newsworthy since it would eventually be the media event of a lifetime. Maybe it isn’t news. Maybe it is big news. Maybe we need to think of Constitutional change as newsworthy over shocking photos of Kim K’s curvy buttocks. ;)

Aloha, it means we are beginning the debate over possible amendments soon. There is no reason we cannot engage in the debate over the solutions. We are following the lead of Iceland and hope to demonstrate the process of an Article V convention and expose Americans to the proposals of 2013. I hope that explains [...]

We at ArticleV.org are pleased to announce today we have developed a site that is capable of crowdsourcing the Constitution here in the US, as Iceland did. We are eager to begin assembling the People to deliberate and propose amendments to our Constitution. Please register and join the effort. All Americans are welcome. http://articlev.org/ More updates [...] -

Daniel Marks wrote a new diary post: There is No Problem Americans Cannot Fix
I am working with Occupy to trigger an Article V Convention to propose amendments to the Constitution. I have recently learned of a plan by Conservative think tanks and lobbyists to use a convention, but lock the people out of the process. We call that a hi-jacked convention. I find myself soul searching a bit now [...] -

Nick, I think your effort will make everyone want an open convention. You are helping us more than you know, or maybe you do. I won’t stand in your way, don’t stand in our’s. Once the JBS is behind you, you know you have nothing to worry about. With open debate, maybe we can keep [...]
