DanR commented on the blog post Get Ready for a Potentially Really Brutal Debt Ceiling Fight in a Year or Two
I think we’ve reached the point where we need a wiki reference for “Obama folding” metaphors, a bank for bloggers to draw on.
…crumbled like a sandcastle at high tide
tissue in the rain
cheap folding chair in the wind…or at least a Tumblr page

DanR commented on the blog post Reid Quadruples and Quintuples Down on Romney Tax Return Comments
Hm, so, activists and outside organizations need to force Democrats to care about liberal policy. I’m wondering if maybe that means activists and outside organizations are weak?

DanR commented on the blog post The Health Care Lose-Lose Scenario Facing Democrats
This is a measure of how sad and crippled the Democratic party has become: a stillborn law that addresses a problem in name only and is a political disaster. There will however be an upside for the progressive movement outside of party politics.

DanR commented on the blog post FDL Book Salon Welcomes Chris Hayes, Twilight Of The Elites: America After Meritocracy
Is the notion of meritocracy predicated on a conservative worldview, that people can pull themselves up by their own bootstraps/be self-made?

DanR commented on the blog post FDL Book Salon Welcomes Chris Hayes, Twilight Of The Elites: America After Meritocracy
Indeed. At a university, a wealthy donor or even a potential wealthy donor can get rules well bent for their child to gain entrance, in my experience. Probably the same for other areas.

DanR commented on the blog post Obama Administration Suddenly Decides “Time Is Right” for ENDA
Let’s all remember this the next time someone whines about progressive groups “attacking allies” (ie politicians with D after their names) because we should “all be on the same team”

DanR commented on the blog post Reminder: No One Disputes the Legality of Single Payer
And yet the ACA is described as Obama’s signature achievement. And that may be true. Rather pathetic.

DanR commented on the blog post The Smearing of Trayvon Martin
A couple generations from now, American history students will look back at this time and shake their heads, mystified and ashamed that we all somehow put up with this kind of debased and grotesque public environment, let alone had major figures who made careers of open hate and bile. History books will leave the impression that there were hardly any decent Americans in the early 21st century.

DanR commented on the blog post Individual Mandate Significantly Reduces Support for ACA
Also, access to health care is a human right, whereas access to a car is not.

Yep, just follow the money to find your answer with this one.

DanR commented on the blog post Administration Officials Announce Birth Control Access “Compromise” for Religious Institutions
No Obama cave would be complete without a rhetorical confirmation of right-wing views as icing on the cake:
“I saw that local churches did more good for a community than a government program ever could.”

DanR commented on the blog post The $2,000 Insult in the Foreclosure Fraud Settlement
At least CREDO calls it for what it is
Wall Street banks fraudulently and illegally foreclose on your house. You get $2,000. The bank gets let off the hook. We’d call that a bad deal.

DanR commented on the blog post The $2,000 Insult in the Foreclosure Fraud Settlement
Open lawlessness, unabashed attacks on the powerless… I feel like I live in the early 19th century.
