I pointe out to my Senators that we all paid into SS and that it would be sound a viable if congress quit borrowing money from it. That all the cuts were an excuse to renege on their IOU’s.

Just called my Senators:
Burr’s aide said that all the cuts to SS and Medicare were to strengthen them, which I said I disagreed with that. She was polite but I could tell she did not agree with me but said she would pass my views on to him.
Senator Hagen’s aide was polite and the aide said that Sen Hagen was opposed to cuts to SS and Medicare.

I see no reason why we can’t lower corporate tax a little, close all tax loopholes,
add a national sales tax of say 2 cent on the $, which would be fair to all.
But then they could not gut SS or Medicare. -

Thank you Jane, and kudos to VT.
I think it is time as a nation we collectively DEMAND not ask for the changes we want. No corporate campaign contributions, lobbyist’s salary taxed at 100 % Single payer Health care and all bills must be written by Real Lawyers not these idiots in congress that are not good enough lawyers to make it in the profession. Some of these bill a 1st year law student could do better after one class.

Great article, and comments.
NC is so far behind, and with our new Rep/ nurse, Ins.lobbiest we are doomed to business as usual. Every year my premiums go up like clock work to the point that I will have to drop it this or next year, it is more than my mortgage payment. Our Sen’s and Rep’s ignore the cost end of this and at some point there has to be a cap on it. -

I think we sum up O in this quote, ” you were the most powerful man in England (US) and could have been greater still, yet you had not the courage to be loyal, only the conviction of your own vanity” ( Walingham to the Duke of Northfolk (sp), Movie : Elizabeth)

darclay commented on the blog post It Starts With: “Hello. I am a Prosecutor in Nigeria …
A great blog, the FCPA blog, has a series of articles summarizing the deferred prosecution and plea deals that the U.S. cut with the companies involved. This article has links to articles in the series that discuss the U.S. guilty plea of KBR in February 2009 ($402 million fine) and Halliburton ($177 million disgorgement); and deals made by Snamprogetti, ENI ($365mill) and Technip ($338 million). Those deals all came after a deal made by KBR’s former CEO, Jack Stanley.
Wonder how much of these fines have been paid?
