Interestingly, Jane Roberts gave up writing mainstream science fiction and began channeling tons of books dictated to her by an “energy personality essence no longer focused in physical reality” named Seth. I assume it paid much better than F&SF.

I recommend nearly anything by Tim Powers. I suppose his stuff might be labeled “occult” fantasy (though never as tedious as that may sound.) Start with Last Call, The Anubis Gates, or On Strange Tides.

We had an automated antenna turner. You’d turn it to North to pick up the L.A. stations. Any other “fringies” remember horror movies hosted by Seymour? He was a sort of primitive forerunner of MST3K.
