Is my diary more useless than the celebrity trial updates at La Figa? More useless than the Caturday posts? I am sorry you feel this way.

Gringo, would you mind if I ask a couple questions? 1. What is the difference between voting for a Green candidate at the federal level and not voting at all? 2. Plenty of Democrats and Republicans have won their seats with less than 50% of the vote, yet they continue to ignore their constituents. Why? [...]

I do not speak for Bin Quick specifically, but as I understand it the argument goes: at least with the Republicans, you know what you’re getting.

Shame? Telling the truth? I cannot enter into their headspace of course, but the kind of people who often run for office do not seem to feel very much shame for their miserable behavior. When confronted with his disastrous presidential legacy, Bush Jr. declared that he will be vindicated by historians in the future. He [...]

Vote for whom, msmolly? If you think Obama is an unacceptable candidate and (presumably) the Republican nominee as well, what options do you really have? What is the difference between voting for a third-party candidate for example and not voting at all? You could claim that you have cast a ‘protest vote,’ but who is [...]

I agree that it a far better use of your time to focus on local elections, rather than state or federal ones. My proposal is an implicit ‘vote’ against “the hateful Democrats and Republicans,” insofar as it is a vote for none. And it requires minimal time or energy to participate.

Thanks for your reply, metamars. I often believed that Alan Keyes ran in so many elections for this same purpose: his sharply conservative rhetoric drove the discourse in Republican primary campaigns a bit farther right as his opponents would define themselves as acceptable alternatives. My problem with this Overton Window theory of primaries as it [...]

Arctor, I generally share your frustration and have stopped browsing most of the political blogs I used to frequent every day. Periodically you will read dairies on DailyKos tagged as ‘GBCW’ in which a contributor explains, sometimes quietly and others spectacularly, that s/he has decided to take a break from political discussions. The American political [...]

I think there is a necessary place for third parties in the future of American politics. However, until you tear down the existing rotten infrastructure of the electoral system, third parties simply cannot survive it. But can you explain why you believe a primary candidate could survive the Democratic Party infrastructure, which will reflexively protect [...]

warp9, Haven’t the plutocrats already stolen the show by marginalizing the party you intend to vote for? What is the practical difference between voting for the Green Party and not voting at all? The MSM creates its own narratives of course, and we cannot control its spin. But it is far easier to ignore a [...]

    aliusdeus,

How many Democratic Senators would you say are working in your best interests? Can you name them? How would you rate the performance of the Democratic Party when it controlled the House, Senate, and executive from 2008 to 2010?

ThumbnailKevin Zeese wrote an excellent diary today in which he summarizes the many disappointments Americans have endured as a consequence of our corrupt government and its organs. The polls he cites indicate that progressives are not alone in their dissatisfaction; it seems that Americans of starkly different political persuasions are most likely to agree that the government [...]
