DavidH commented on the blog post HAMP Suffered From Extremely Poor Oversight
Well I am SHOKED to read this. A government program poorly managed with no oversight? Surely a rare occurrence.

DavidH commented on the blog post The Great Move Back Home
I’ve noticed the move back home among some of my friends and neighbors who have had college educated children move back in with them. Not exactly what they planned after the house had been empty for years in some cases. But I blame it at least partially on some of the lame majors college kids choose. If you major in psychology with no plans for further education, what is it you think someone will hire you to do? Same with communications majors, women’s studies majors, African American studies majors?

DavidH commented on the blog post Nearly 12,000 Prisoners Join California Hunger Strike to End Torture Conditions
Well the fundamental problem is that many of those incarcerated were in gangs before they were locked up so they see it as part of their lifestyle. But inside prison, non gang members have nowhere to go to escape the gang violence.

DavidH commented on the diary post Occupy Jail Cells by Ava.
Ava, when will ows organize people who have some sense to speak for the movement? Honestly some of the people interviewed have been clueless. The media have tended to pick very young protesters who say stupid things like “we’re against greed” or “we have to get rid of capitalism” (without being able to say what [...]

DavidH commented on the blog post Noted Liberal Rag Bloomberg Levels Serious Charges at Koch Industries
Bloomberg, the news organization for patchouli-burning, Birkenstock-wearing hippies everywhere, has a long story alleging that Koch Industries traded with Iran, paid bribes to win contracts, stole oil, and engaged in “violations of criminal law,” according to the company’s own internal documents.
Yawn. France did all that stuff too and nobody here made a peep.

DavidH commented on the blog post Nearly 12,000 Prisoners Join California Hunger Strike to End Torture Conditions
I don’t like people being held in isolation but what is the solution to gang activity, which endangers everyone in the prison?

DavidH commented on the blog post Democrats Suffering from Large Enthusiasm Gap
It is very disheartening to have no good choice. I am unwilling to give Obama another chance, he has been an unmitigated disaster and I feel very foolish to have been taken in the first time. I was excited to vote for a young (relatively) minority but those factors are less important this time. I want someone who will bring change, real change, not soundbite change.

DavidH commented on the blog post Germany Approves Expanded European Bailout Fund
Germany exceeded the 3% Maastricht limit from 2003-2005, and again in 2009, when it allowed itself an, er, Keynesian stimulus of 50 billion Euros. Of course that’s now verboten for Greece.
And you have hit on the problem nicely here.

DavidH commented on the blog post Germany Approves Expanded European Bailout Fund
@juliania
I’m not an economist so take my impressions as a grain of salt, but why would the move to the euro have any implications other than unification, and would folk outside the American colonies be annoyed (I know there’s a huge difference) that this country wanted a single currency?
Well, unifying the currencies does not change the countries or the economic behavior of the countries. When Germany entered the eurozone, it signed up to cover the debts of the other members and now it’s having to do so. This hardly took a prophet to predict and many people did predict it. Not sure what any colonies, much less the US, have to do with the eurozone.
It’s certainly fine with me as well for Greece to be Greece but then I am not having to bail it out. Germany may be less fine with Greece’s economic ways these days.

DavidH commented on the blog post Germany Approves Expanded European Bailout Fund
The EU and the eurozone are not the same things.

DavidH commented on the blog post Ruling on Alabama Immigration Law Validates “Papers Please” Aspects of SB1070
I thought the same thing. And quite developed apparently.

DavidH commented on the blog post Germany Approves Expanded European Bailout Fund
The point that the introduction of the euro is behind much of this is valid. But it should be remembered that many people said joining such disparate economies and peoples was not a good idea. For better or worse Germans still consider themselves German and Greeks still consider themselves Greek. There is no European identity but the euro gave many a false sense that there could be.

DavidH commented on the blog post Ruling on Alabama Immigration Law Validates “Papers Please” Aspects of SB1070
This will cause illegals to flee the state of Alabama, where they may have lived for years.

DavidH commented on the blog post Maxine Waters (D-CA) Not Amused by Obama’s Badgering
Because when one has a dispute with a family member and he tells you to “get
over it” and “shake it off” and “quit complainin’” — that usually doesn’t help matters.
and family members always want to help matters?

DavidH commented on the diary post Contrast How Occupy Wall Street and Right Wing Protestors Are Treated by NYC by Cynthia Kouril.
Hey I gave you a chance and you come up with “they’re tired”?

DavidH commented on the diary post Contrast How Occupy Wall Street and Right Wing Protestors Are Treated by NYC by Cynthia Kouril.
Again, what is the message, that they are tired? That’s it?
-
DavidH commented on the blog post Maxine Waters (D-CA) Not Amused by Obama’s Badgering
Has anyone here ever been in a family quarrel? All heat and smoke, and then it evaporates like nothing happened. That’s what this is, a family quarrel.
Sure but this has nothing to do with anything I said.

DavidH commented on the diary post Contrast How Occupy Wall Street and Right Wing Protestors Are Treated by NYC by Cynthia Kouril.
So the protesters should have been moved from the doors, good then we agree. Not sure why you’re calling any protesters “your”.
I have no idea what you mean by “denied media coverage”. Denied by whom?
-
DavidH commented on the blog post Maxine Waters (D-CA) Not Amused by Obama’s Badgering
Not to defend Obama on anything, but Waters is a truly awful person.
