I love the use of sweet peas! This wedding must be coming up soon. Sweet peas are in my farmers market now.

Thanks for sharing. I admire you! I always bought the school district rather than buying the house, if you get my drift. And I enjoyed taking my kids on educational adventures. They all did well in school. Congrats for doing what you did for your kids. Good stuff.

I love your spunk! I’ve been working on canning stuff for years. I still remember my grandma’s canned goods in her cellar….. 30 jars of peaches looked great, and then one jar had brown peaches gone bad. I’m still a little bit scared of canning stuff! But I love pickling stuff. And freezer stuff can get all freezer burned, too.

I know! I read a whole bunch of recipes on the internet and saw that some use chicken stock and some use beef stock…. I’ve always just followed Julia, but I didn’t have enough beef stock so I added chicken stock, and it was every bit as good. I’m telling you, nothing like some home made onion soup…. even if the canned broth cuts into the ‘home made’ a bit. Just delicious.

Hey, Openhope, I’ve always been curious…. if you don’t feel it’s too intrusive…. why did you decide to home school? As a former teacher myself, I was happy for my kids to experience our local schools. I don’t know that I could have home schooled them, and I’ve always been curious about those who choose to do that. If you don’t mind…..

Navy bean is a favorite. Also green pea…. am just finishing a dose of that. The onion soup is per Julia Child…. and I admit that I don’t always have homemade beef stock (ha!)… so I use canned beef stock. This time I used two cans of low sodium beef stock and one can of low sodium chicken stock. Pretty darned delicious!

I made some french onion soup yesterday … just because I love it so. My house still smells wonderful, and the soup is so comforting. If you are snuggling in the rain, make some onion soup….. you will feel comforted, I promise!

No plans. Will certainly hit a farmers market…. hey, the cherries and peaches are in! Will see my daughter and her husband and the baby boys at their pleasure. Will see my dad at some point. But really, a long weekend is a pleasure or hit and miss. I’ve got lots of work next week, so I’m going to enjoy the downtime.

A beautiful day in the neighborhood, for sure! The ocean is kicking up, and that’s grand. The sun is warm. Wind is not too strong. Perfection, really. Wonderful to be home with nothing particular that just had to be done. So I did some cleaning, picked some roses, cooked for the fun of it, talked long with my sister out on Cape Cod. You know…. the perfect day!

Oh, I have an idea: Let’s go build some more schools in Afghanistan and put more contractors in Iraq….. hell, America’s in great shape; let’s go ‘fix’ the world. F**kers!

And the cherries and other stone fruits are in at the farmers market! Yum. Bought 3 kinds of cherries, some nectarines, peaches and apricots this morning at the Ventura Farmers Market. There was no rain to split the cherries early in the season, one of the growers told me, so all the cherries are just beautiful and juicy. And the apricots are well shaped and not beaten up by winds.

Hey, spocko! Do you grow any roses now? I didn’t think roses would make it at the beach….. so wet at night here…every night. But there are roses all up and down my block, and they all seem to do just fine.

Suz, I’ve been to the Portland Rose Garden a couple of times and enjoy it very much! Really just beautiful. The true aroma of roses puts all the perfumes to shame.
