I do not really see how that “Christmas present” was really out of line. Depreciation ans Sec. 179 deductions are simply a way for a business to report a legitimate expense that is subtracted from gross income to reach a taxable net income. I fail to see major harm in deducting something as an expense quicker than five or seven or thirty nine years. In the years following the deduction, the business will have a higher net income if there is less expense to deduct from whatever that year’s gross income.
Unfair loopholes are rotten by definition, but the general principle of deducting actual business expenses from gross income should not be a proble, given that the expenses are a cost of doing business.
