dick c commented on the blog post Roman Catholic Hierarchy Tacitly Admits That They’re Losing The Marriage Debate
People aren’t accepting an organization entirely composed of single people as an authority on marriage? Amazing.

Another benefit to the parties is that their blame games breed more distrust of the other side which strengthens the grip of each to it’s constituents.

Just because his track record on caving isn’t 100% is no reason to lose faith in the guy. He’s got it in him to do it again.

This is probably a good place to recommend duckduckgo.com (or ddg.gg) as a pretty decent search engine. I only use google occasionally anymore, duckduckgo is my default.

dick c commented on the blog post Quinnipiac Poll: Majority of American Voters Support Marijuana Legalization
Is there anything to suggest support for legalization might decline? Wouldn’t it be fair to say most Americans are familiar enough with the effects of marijuana use to make a reasoned judgment about it? It’s impossible for me to imagine anything new coming to light that would turn the polling trend around. This has to be clear to everyone in government. Continuing to pursue the current course can only be viewed as an intention to milk it for all it’s worth. Given the state of the economy, we can’t afford that.

dick c commented on the blog post Boehner Threatens No Votes on Senate Bills if Democrats Push Through Filibuster Reform
Maybe I’m not following closely enough. Aren’t Dems simply saying if you want to filibuster you have to actually filibuster? That really isn’t ending the filibuster.

dick c commented on the blog post Obama Plans to Hit Road With Oh-So-Popular Message of Cutting Social Security and Medicare
The only mention of health care costs was parenthetical. That’s a lot better than most pieces on the topic. Look at the graph featured at Ezra Klein’s recent piece: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/wp/2012/11/09/the-single-best-graph-on-whats-driving-our-deficits/ It’s all health care costs. Fix the budget now by cutting anything you want and we’ll still be right back here again in a few years. The problem isn’t government spending at all, it’s what the health care industry is charging. Nothing in the budget can fix this outside of totally eliminating all government provided health care.

dick c commented on the diary post Empty chairs and missing signs in Ohio by danps.
If the chairs are being put out by Republicans as some sort of sign I think it would be catchy in part because it’s easy. If you get the urge to put out an actual sign you have to follow through with a few steps. With a chair, you simply grab that ubiquitous old chair [...]

dick c commented on the blog post Come Saturday Morning: Voter Fraud and Misrepresentation Exists – And It’s Committed by Republicans
I’m mostly worried about (as yet unseen) improvements to that vote flipping scheme that’s been reported recently. If flipping like this was more evenly distributed would it show?

dick c commented on the blog post Americans Are Sick of Divided Government
I’d be satisfied if a president were simply allowed to do more of what he promised while campaigning. As it is, I think someone like Obama counts on the opposition giving him an excuse to not do what he promises.

I’ll bet “none of the above” would win lots of elections if it meant a do-over with new candidates.

dick c commented on the blog post Good job Egypt it took us at least a generation to get there
I’m honestly starting to think voting against all candidates on a ballot needs to be an option requiring a new selection of candidates. What’s the worse that could happen?

dick c commented on the blog post WikiLeaks Uncovers Report Showing Homeland Security Monitored Occupy Movement
We must have a bunch of morons over at Homeland Security. Why can’t they understand that the protest is all about the average person realizing that wall Street bankers are a huge threat to the security of the country… And the reason they think that is because they obviously are!
