dick c commented on the blog post Senator Chuck Schumer Misleads On Trial Snowden Would Receive
“Fortunately for Schumer, unlike lying to Congress, lying to the media is not a crime.”
Lying to the media is actually lying to the people of the country through the media. We used to think the media would catch the lies and protect us from being misled, but for the most part that hasn’t been true for a long time. Lying to the people of the country should be a crime, especially for elected representatives. Fat chance. For that we’d need something like a real Department of Justice.
dick c commented on the blog post US Must Not Surrender in Big Brother Arms Race, Senator Argues in Hearing on NSA Surveillance
Just like we have bullies attracted to police and military careers, it seems the paranoid are attracted to spy services. Isn’t there any sort of psychological testing done to screen defectives out? Just because someone appears to display a passion for something doesn’t mean they’re best for it, or it for them, and they’re definitely not best for the rest of us.
dick c commented on the blog post Poll: Americans No Longer Believe In American Dream
“With even President Obama lamenting the loss of social mobility in America …” Well, he claimed to lament the loss, but don’t his actions belie his words? Talk is cheap, and he’d have sounded like an idiot or a Republican if he tried to claim things are anything but what they are.
But I’ll bet they didn’t hire any pot smokers!
dick c commented on the blog post Dinesh D’Souza: America ‘Will Survive Grown-Up Trayvon in the White House’
“D’Souza has yet to offer an explanation”
He’ll never respond. What could he say? “I’m not a racist, but…?” That just doesn’t fly anymore.

nycterrierist @ 18 As if Walmart = human starvation isn’t bad enough!
I glanced at a mention of this food drive yesterday and thought it had to be a spoof.
dick c commented on the blog post TIME Magazine Reporter Michael Grunwald Calls For Murder Of Julian Assange
Grunwald’s tweet sounds like something you’d expect from a terrorist didn’t it?
A related comment … If I had ever read Orwell’s “1984″ it would have been 40 years ago. However, I just downloaded and listened to Blackstone Audio’s recording of “1984″ from overdrive.com through my local library’s site and highly recommend it if you haven’t read the book in a while.
dick c commented on the blog post Obama Officially Considers This Caring Mother a Dangerous Criminal
“The Controlled Substance Act directly gives the executive branch the power to unilaterally change the schedule of any drug based on the latest scientific evidence.”
That I didn’t know! I expect the only reason marijuana is still Schedule I is that the “war” on it is so profitable for well connected individuals. It certainly doesn’t have anything to do with the plant itself.
Dean Baker compared Goldman Sachs and Detroit yesterday… not that GS has anything to do with Detroit other than using it as a setting for their great aluminum caper. http://www.cepr.net/index.php/blogs/cepr-blog/detroit-and-goldman-sachs-makers-and-takers
dick c commented on the blog post DuckDuckGo Sees Traffic Soar in Wake of NSA Scandal
DDG has been my default for a while and have been quite happy. The only time I’d go to Google or Bing was for image searches, but then noticed I could access their image searches by preceding my term with !bi or !gi and DDG would pass it along.
It’s not so much that I think anyone’s going to learn anything they could use against me. I just hope they notice I’m not using the big guys because I’m not happy about being spied on.
dick c commented on the blog post Jury Acquits Bank Of America Protester Of Vandalism Charges
“No word on whether Bank of America will be prosecuted for anything, ever.”
No word? The crickets we hear speaks loudly.
dick c commented on the blog post Activists the US Military Targeted & Spied Upon Were Designated ‘Domestic Terrorists’
I started to type “unbelievable,” but I guess it’s been awhile since that would have been true.
“Finally, the lawsuit alleges that the activists’ First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Fourteenth Amendment rights to “equal protection under the law as well as loss of liberty, pain and suffering and injury…”
There’s not much doubt about who’s the actual “terrorist” here.
dick c commented on the blog post Partisans are only Concerned about Government Surveillance When the Other Side is in Charge
Let’s hope people are figuring out this bipartisan charade, because these guys are marching us–left, right, left, right–right where they want us to go.
dick c commented on the blog post Roman Catholic Hierarchy Tacitly Admits That They’re Losing The Marriage Debate
People aren’t accepting an organization entirely composed of single people as an authority on marriage? Amazing.
Another benefit to the parties is that their blame games breed more distrust of the other side which strengthens the grip of each to it’s constituents.
Just because his track record on caving isn’t 100% is no reason to lose faith in the guy. He’s got it in him to do it again.
This is probably a good place to recommend duckduckgo.com (or ddg.gg) as a pretty decent search engine. I only use google occasionally anymore, duckduckgo is my default.
Good luck to you! You’ve been one of the few sources of news I’ve felt I could trust. Thanks!
dick c commented on the blog post Quinnipiac Poll: Majority of American Voters Support Marijuana Legalization
Is there anything to suggest support for legalization might decline? Wouldn’t it be fair to say most Americans are familiar enough with the effects of marijuana use to make a reasoned judgment about it? It’s impossible for me to imagine anything new coming to light that would turn the polling trend around. This has to be clear to everyone in government. Continuing to pursue the current course can only be viewed as an intention to milk it for all it’s worth. Given the state of the economy, we can’t afford that.
dick c commented on the blog post Boehner Threatens No Votes on Senate Bills if Democrats Push Through Filibuster Reform
Maybe I’m not following closely enough. Aren’t Dems simply saying if you want to filibuster you have to actually filibuster? That really isn’t ending the filibuster.
