Dogpaddle commented on the diary post The Day That NPR Lost Me by Quasit.
From Wikipedia:
“A voice problem led Rehm to take a hiatus from broadcasting in 1998. She was found to be suffering from spasmodic dysphonia. Rehm sought treatment which allowed her to resume doing her show.”

Dogpaddle commented on the diary post Shell Oil’s Arctic Drilling Containment Dome “Crushed Like a Beer Can” by Kevin Grandia.
Yeah, except that they were allowed to go ahead and start drilling with out a working containment dome. Furthermore, tests don’t always fail. Well engineered items pass tests. Cheaply designed, poorly constructed items thrown together to meet bogus requirements often fail tests, IMHE.

The words of an industry flack:
“I think if people would spend a little bit of the time they spend opposing GM learning more about what GM is in some detail, they would be less afraid of it.”

Uh, the president of Paraguay was recently overthrown in a US backed right-wing coup.

Dogpaddle commented on the diary post Obama is so confident of his base that he reminds us again over the weekend that he will cut social security, Medicare, and Medicaid by Barefoot Accountant.
Put the fear into him by registering to vote as a Socialist. A million Democrats re-registering as Socialists would put the fear of loss into these knuckleheads.

Dogpaddle commented on the blog post Federal Court Blocks Florida Early Voting Restrictions
Basically the Voting Rights act was enacted to correct the Jim Crow voting laws in the old Dixie states. As a result, it does not have the ability to oversee problems in Pennsylvania or Wisconsin. It was written to specifically oversee any changes to voting laws made in precincts where discrimination had at that time (1960′s) been taking place.

Dogpaddle commented on the diary post Time for Progressives to Put the Squeeze on Obama by Barefoot Accountant.
There is something that real liberals can do to scare the Democrats back to the left: register to vote as a Socialist. If one million Democrats would re-register as Socialists it would scare the crap out of the Democratic party and probably accomplish a lot more than a Rocky Anderson protest vote. I will be [...]

Seeing as how the flow of federal tax dollars is from blue states to red states, I would have to say that you are correct.

Dogpaddle commented on the blog post If You’ve Lost Bill Kristol, Well You’re Actually Probably Better off
The reason Romney won’t release his 2010 state tax return is because he claimed New Hampshire residency in 2010 and NH doesn’t have a state income tax. The problem is that he voted in 2010 in Massachusetts in the Scott Brown/Martha Coakley race, and thus should have filed a 2010 Massachusetts state tax return…which he didn’t. Turns out the only voter fraud in America is being perpetrated by the Republicans.

Dogpaddle commented on the diary post Forensic Firearm Evidence May Solve Zimmerman Case by Masoninblue.
Zimmerman’s story was that he got out of his truck to read the street sign to see where he was and that Martin attacked him from behind as he returned to his vehicle. This is of course absurd since he was patrolling the neighborhood for months prior to this incident. To get lost to the [...]

Dogpaddle commented on the blog post Sunday Late Night: They Be Millionaires
Have you noticed that after an oil boom a state tends to shift from blue to red? Alaska was blue until after the pipeline, as were many other states. My thinking is that all the dumb-ass oil-patch Bubbas stay on and breed and change the demographics. Hell, Oklahoma once had the largest socialist party in the US…look at it now.

In a perfect world, giant power companies and inefficient interstate transmission would be unnecessary. Local generation of power is now becoming more practical. Screw the man, DIY.
