DrDave commented on the blog post It’s Time for MoveOn to Move and Stop Blocking Change
It’s OK to criticize MoveOn. Maybe it is not as OK unless you have a record of involvement and commitment equal to theirs.
They have achieved a lot.Telling them what they should be doing, if, and only if, your own achievements pale in comparison, would indicate that your energy could be better directed. You may think that your own progressive record is mighty, an unstoppable force like a cross between the Mississippi and the Spaghetti Monster. And this may well be the case, so lay, on McMonster, they can take it and you can dish it out.
Organizations are like tugboats. It’s always a shock when you are in the position of steering how difficult it can be to get critical mass. Build one, pilot one; let us know how it goes.

It’s an amazing song–if you read all the lyrics I can’t see how it could be for Julian, but who knows?

DrDave commented on the blog post Jon Chait’s Miserable Endorsement of Raising the Medicare Eligibility Age
The Insurance companies totally wring you dry with exorbitant premiums between ages 60-65. At a bare minimum, we should be able to buy in to medicare at a reduced rate, say $200 per month for years 55-65, then be eligible for medicare advantage. Anything else is basically stealing from people.

According to the best estimates, Romney now has 47 percent of the popular vote (47.41 rounds down to 47). Just a sort of storybook ending.

I recommend the N100 mask. I realize it is more expensive, but it is a very good mask.

Don’t blame Papa John’s? Oh, they seem soooooooooooo nice.
How about we make our own pizza with organic ingredients and live longer, happier lives. -

DrDave commented on the blog post Conservatives at SCOTUS Harshly Question Mandate; Kennedy Probably Holds Deciding Vote
The interstate commerce act is overly broad. If your Broccoli comes from another state, it can be regulated. Whether you eat it or not is up to you. Your doctor cannot force you to take your pills or eat your broccoli, even if it is in your interests
The correct analogy is regulating arsenic in the water or restricting smoking. -

Heckuva job, Verrilli.

DrDave commented on the blog post Raising Minimum Wage Significantly Would Boost Economy
Raising the minimum wage is the only way to raise revenues without raising taxes. People earn more, keep more, and pay more taxes at the same rate but on a higher salary. This also strengthens Social Security. Fix Social Security, lower the debt without raising taxes. PS Tax the Rich.

DrDave commented on the blog post Payroll Tax Cut Big Question Mark as Congress Returns
The public needs to know, and we need to repeat this as a mantra, that whenever someone says “voucher” they mean “I will steal you blind.” Voucher is a synonym for theft.

DrDave commented on the diary post President Obama Doesn’t Understand the Origins of the Deficit by Dean Baker.
I believe you are conflating deficit and CBO projections. An enormous gaffe would be, for example, saying that the Iraq war would pay for itself, or, in fact, hiding or obscuring the size of the true deficit, which is what is usually done, or saying that social security is broken.

DrDave commented on the blog post Fact Checking Politifact: Wrong About Jon Stewart’s Use of the Word “Misinformed”
Politifact made a mistake by conflating ill-informed with misinformed. After they discovered that they were wrong, they did not do the right thing, which is, of course, to say “we goofed”. Instead, they try to to redefine the word “consistently” to find some sort of ridiculous technicality to keep from admitting the obvious. Jon’s use of the word consistently is fine and you don’t need to be an English teacher to realize that the word refers not to a perfect state of congruity but rather to a firm and durable pattern (OED). Redefining Jon’s words is essentially misquoting him, and the gutless editors of Politifact will not admit what the world now knows: they don’t understand basic English.
