Good post. I would like to mention, though, that the American definition of “Libertarian” is the opposite of the historical definition. Enemies?? I think the real problem is that the Democrat’s big corporate donors are not much different than the Republican’s big corporate donors. As a result, neither party is allowed to enact much progressive legislation. That is why when we elected Obama with a big majority, they were tripping over each other trying to avoid doing anything truly progressive. The excuses were beyond lame. Crony capitalism was on display for all to see. The longer the two parties control the game, the further right we will drift.

According to the poll, the main impediments to sane marijuana laws are Republicans and old people. Republicans, of course, are hopeless but maybe the way to tip the scale is to turn on our parents and grandparents.

The answer is in our history books, which we neglect to read.
Excellent points! Life is a balance of power and if we want to stop them from doing something (like decimating the social safety net, for example) we have to hit the streets and repeatedly show them that it will cause so much blowback that it is not worth doing.

I don’t want a compromise — they should raise the debt ceiling without attaching poison to it. I want Democrats to stand up and say it is insane to cut the budget while the economy is so weak. I’m sick of watching Democrats agree with the Republicans and just quibble over a few details. Bottom Line: I won’t vote for anyone who tries to cut the social safety net.
