Historical interpretations of events aside, I hope we can agree that destroying privacy and preventing assembly (Occupy) are pretty serious violations of the 4th and 1st amendments of the Constitution.
Hence, if the elite are no longer following the Constitution, why should we?

Exactly the difference between a classical republic like Rome and a commercial oligarchy is essentially the absence of a formal aristocracy and antagonism towards/inclusion of the merchant class.

Well that muddling of the word was not accidental. Democracy was synonymous with anarchy for a long time – rule by the mob – until the people at large gained more power and influence, then elites coopted the term and redefined it to suit their interests.

Hence Commercial Oligarchy which the US is today and was, on some level, designed to be.
That’s not in question. What is, is whether there will be any constraints on the oligarchs.

No, the Madison point was the country was designed to be a classic republic in that a few rich landowners were supposed to run it. As Justice John Jay said “The people that own the country ought to govern it.”
That was not an entirely popular position, many actually did want a more substantive republic with democratic institutions. Some were so enraged they were against the Constitution.
The compromise was to include the Bill of Rights.

Absolutely. I’m just saying the undergirding of our system is built on a few principles which, even if interpreted in a very Realpolitik way, have been violated.

As Madison’s notes detail not even really a Republic. Remember the Constitution was in response to fears of disorder and many of the heroes of the revolution and others strongly objected to it.
The Bill of Rights was the addition that made it acceptable to many. So that has been invalidated thus the grounds for revolt are that the Constitution is finished and we return to the legitimacy conferred by the consent of the governed which, as Coach notes, is from D of I.

Sure but remember the people who advocated democracy said no constitution unless there was a Bill of Rights. Those were the conditions they were willing accept the “Republic” ie commercial oligarchy.
I’m saying the oligarchs broke the agreement.

No, they say explicitly they are sharing user information with intelligence agencies in exchange for being able to see classified information.
