dualdiagnosis commented on the blog post Report: Obama Signs Order Allowing Covert Support for Libyan Rebels
Biden said:
I want to stand by that comment I made. The reason I made that comment is a warning. The reason, I don’t say those things lightly, Chris, you’ve known me for a long time. I was chairman of the Judiciary committee for 17 years or its ranking member. I teach separation of powers and constitutional law. This is something I know. So I got together and brought a group of Constitutional scholars together and write a piece I’m going to deliver to the whole United States Senate in pointing out the president has no Constitutional authority to take this nation to war against a country of 70 million people unless we’re attacked, or unless there is proof that we are about to be attacked. If he does, I would move to impeach him. The House obviously has to do that– but I would lead an effort to impeach him. The reason for my doing that- I don’t say it lightly, I don’t say it lightly..”

“The president does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.”

“..the Constitution requires Congress to authorize war. I do not believe that the President can take military action — including any kind of strategic bombing — against Iran without congressional authorization..”

“…Now let me be clear – I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity. He’s a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him.
But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history. I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a US occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of Al Qaeda. I am not opposed to all wars. I’m opposed to dumb wars.
…The consequences of war are dire, the sacrifices immeasurable. We may have occasion in our lifetime to once again rise up in defense of our freedom, and pay the wages of war. But we ought not — we will not — travel down that hellish path blindly. Nor should we allow those who would march off and pay the ultimate sacrifice, who would prove the full measure of devotion with their blood, to make such an awful sacrifice in vain. ”

dualdiagnosis commented on the blog post Wisconsin: Anti-Union Bill Published Despite Restraining Order
Lol! I guess it goes without saying, probably should have included the LRB in the restraining order.
Oh, and also should have known that the bill itself could pass with or without the fleebaggers.
Amateur hour.

Obama said Gaddafi has been given ‘ample warning.’”
That’s right
10 days = “ample warning”
17 UN resolutions on Iraq over the course of a decade = “rush to war”

Barack Obama has now been responsible for firing more cruise missiles than all other Nobel Peace prize winners combined.
He’s still in 2nd place for number of Arab deaths caused (and 3rd place for Muslim deaths) behind Yassir Arafat and Mikhail Gorbachev.

dualdiagnosis commented on the blog post Obama Using Unemployed As an Excuse To Get What He Wanted All Along
Preemptive concessioning and impotent posturing is behavior that is in the DNA of the Democratic party. The smell of fear and defeat hang naturally upon its leaders. When they can’t help but prostrate themselves when they have overwhelming majorities in both houses and a supremely popular President, who can blame those that recoil in horror at the thought of these same pathetic losers in charge of national security and the defense of freedom and liberty from enemies with real capacity to harm us?
