  • eblair commented on the blog post FDL Book Salon Welcomes Paul Krugman, End This Depression Now!

    2012-05-19 16:15:45View | Delete

Mr. Krugman, while it is perhaps convenient to explain the dogmatism and lack of consensus that one finds in economic debates in terms of national politics, the dogmatism and lack of consensus is a global fact as economists in different countries disagree quite dramatically in a way that physicsists or even music theorists don’t. The standard explanation that a philosopher of science would give is that economics just isn’t a science. It’s serious claims cannot be tested. So my questions are: don’t you think that economics has promised far more than it can deliver? Do you really think it is a science? And if so, what year did it become a science?

Even FDL uses Google Analytics. Go look at the four _utm cookies in your browser. Yepp, Google gets the low down on who comes to FDL and what they do here. Maybe somebody can FDL can explain why the fuck such a “progressive” site aids and abets the biggest corporate cyber stalker out there? Sorry [...]

America and the world are demented. Forget us adults for a moment. Our politicians have allowed these companies to spy on our children and compile huge files on everything they do online and with their cell phone. It is in many ways far worse than what a run of the mill stalker does. That the [...]

Those who aren’t willing to seriously entertain such proposals are manifestly and painfully ignorant of the 2500 year history of republican governement and they are not suited to live under one.

Glad to see once in a while somebody actually thinks. Take a good hard look at this piece folks because this more than anything is what the US needs. It is called republican thinking.

Good piece Jon. Worth 1000 run of the mill daily bullshit pieces from the left right and center.

  • I was under the impression that most readers of FDL had “distaste for the news media” and are of the belief that having such “distaste for the news media” indicates rather that one has a clue rather than that one is out of touch. Are the readers of the New Yorker that stupid these days to let that pass? The Supreme Court is way way out of touch and so is the entirely useless New Yorker.

The quote is from Reuters, not SA. It is not clear which SA article is being referenced. SA’s recent editorial by its editor, who in addition to knowing nothing about the humanities apparently lacks an advanced degree in any scientific discipline, was a total embarassment. In 2012, SA has no particular claim to the truth. It has been polticized and debased. Gary Stix editorial was a recipe for fascism. After reading it, one is left with the thought that even if everything Al Gore claimed were true, rising temperatures would be better than some Stalinist nightmare.

I would call the flagging system “juvenile” but that would be unfair to juveniles. Really, is that supposed to be progressive? Secret and easily gameable ostracism? So stupid. Rather than debate real issues, and rather than debate known issues, set up a system that leads to 1100 comment threads mostly about what might have happened. [...]

There are many ways in which FDL is progressive. But there are an equal number of ways in which it defnitely fails to be progressive. Freedom of speech is not something it is committed to and is one of those places where FDL fails. It would be a very different place without the direct censorship [...]

News Alert: Elections are fixed in the USA anymore. Fraud is rampant. The numbers are a joke. So let’s stop pretending that there is basic democracy in America any fucking more. Any serious look at [...]

Hilarious to see the SPLC complaining about name calling, when they have instutionalized name calling. The SPLC supports the American terror state. Get a clue FDL. Sometimes they are on the right side. Often not. And sometimes, really really not. Get informed. The SPLC is doing much more harm than good in 2012. They put We Are Change, every single chapter, on their list, for daring to question the official 9/11 conspiracy theory. That makes you a hate group. The SPLC defames and slanders. They are not progressive. They are anti-democratic. And they engage in hate. Excuse my dissent. FDL, stop front paging garbage.

  • 110% subservience to Israel as opposed to the usual 100%.

  • Exactly. Firedoglake fails dramatically every time it goes along with MSM narratives. It raises all kinds of questions about motives, competence and commitment to progressive values, like democracy. Almost nobody has voted but firedoglake is using “inevitable”?? Hey Walker and Hamsher, how about an apology for this non-progressive anti-democratic mimicing of the corporate media. You owe it to your readers. This is an embarassment.

  • Evidently some people hate the fact that others can express their views forcefully. The irony, of course, is that those hating the openness of the forum are the same people who for weeks on end screamed racist in every thread relating to Ron Paul. Talk about tiresome. Now they have backed off the shreiking but [...]
