ekhornbeck commented on the blog post Late Night: IRS Apologizes for Doing Its Job
Gah! Stupid HTML! You get the picture.
Non-profit tax exempts can lobby all they like. The question is whether contributions are deductible.
If FDL is not a 501c4 Jane should get better lawyers.

[What Is a 501c4 Organization? http://suite101.com/article/what-is-a-501c4-organization-a14959
Posted by Estela Kennen, Suite 101
Nov 1, 2006501c4s are a common type of non-profit organization that can engage in lobbying or political campaigning.
501(c)4s are tax-exempt non-profit organizations. More specifically, according to the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), 501(c)(4)s are:
* “civic leagues or organizations not organized for profit but operated exclusively for the promotion of social welfare,
* “or local associations of employees, the membership of which is limited to the employees of a designated person or persons in a particular municipality,
* “and the net earnings of which are devoted exclusively to charitable, educational, or recreational purposes.”
…
If you are planning on doing limited or no lobbying and no campaigning, then you probably want the 501(c)3 tax-exemption so that people can benefit from donating to your organization (unless you represent the state or a political subdivision thereof). However, if your organization will be doing substantial lobbying or any campaigning, you should form a 501(c)4.To sum up- the question is whether contributions are charitable deductions, the organization is tax exempt.

ekhornbeck commented on the diary post Reinhart and Rogoff are WRONG! by ekhornbeck.
Agreed. Sometimes I like to use classical analysis though just to make sure I don’t get tied up in debates that are not central to my main argument.
In this instance even from a neo classical Samuelson standpoint Reinhart and Rogoff are flat. dead. WRONG!

Well gee, how about applying some of that non-National Security transparency to the Trans-Pacific Partnership he’s negotiating in secret with 100 corporate lobbyists?

ekhornbeck wrote a new diary post: Defending the Tubz
Crossposted from DocuDharma I think it’s obvious why the more autocratic, authoritarian, and avaricious elements of the current criminal crony system of monarchist mercantile monopolism are constantly attempting to change the commons culture of the Internet. They want to be able to charge you for access to the library/thesaurus/dictionary/encyclopedia/studio/printing press. If you’re like me you’ve already switched [...]

http://www.docudharma.com/diary/31495/eviction-of-occupy-sandy-staten-islandI didn’t use BREAKING !!!!1! but that’s certainly how I feel. Secondary sources on Google News are notably absent at this point.
Hopefully that will change.

ekhornbeck commented on the diary post Sorry, but this blog has been marked as spam by Kurt Sperry.
Lots of links are screwed up, including the ones to this piece which is available through the Front Page recommended list, but not through its links in the MyFDL recent or recommended lists.
Of course this happens quite a bit for me and I usually attribute it to Wordpress funkiness.
