    why do we play the 1812 Overture on the Fourth?

    Beats me, why do American’s use the section of Pomp and circumstance march no 1 for graduation that is the tune to “Land of Hope and glory”?

    Confuses me no end every time I hear it. It would be like Brits graduating to “America the Beautiful”.

    Mind you since we use the UK national anthem for the tune to “My country ’tis of thee” I wouldn’t be surprised.
