I didn’t mean to come off so rude. I’m sorry about that. Really, I don’t get the point of your post. It’s well written with good references.

I don’t get your point. Clearly you don’t think much of dual citizenship for Israelis. But I’m not sure what you think about dual citizenship for Mexicans. I got a sense that you don’t like it either. What exactly is your point… That you don’t like either? I bet you could get agreements from most [...]

Thanks for posting this piece, Wendy. BTW, I agree with you that the militarization of the police is in preparation for a domestic uprising. The coordinated brutality in breaking up the encampments of OWS was a practice run, as is Ferguson. Don’t make too much of the limited response to your post. There is so [...]

I find it very disturbing that at minimum 40% of the population think that torture is appropriate sometimes or often. Add the “rarely” crowd and it turns out that 2/3s of us believe that depending on the circumstances torture can be legitimate. No wonder Obama could get away with “looking forward.” Not enough heat to [...]

    Thanks for the recommendation.

  • It seems to be a random selection process. An event happens & there is a response. Much like a natural disaster which engenders “rebuilding” and includes privatizing schools. As happened in New Orleans after Katrina.Naomi Kline explains it very concisely in her book The Shock Doctrine.

ThumbnailThoughts On Torture Religiosity and Torture The recent revelations came as no surprise. However, now there can be no doubt that the United States tortured people. What are the repercussions? The Senate Team spent five years researching and putting the CIA torture report together. Apparently, it is quite thorough. What now? Knowing this puts us in [...]

Take heart Israel, the whole world is watching. Watching the targeting of civilians. You say you warn before you attack. Where are the Gazans suppose to go. The UN facilities? The world watches as the UN facilities and hospitals are bombed. Watching as the nutrition allowed in Gaza is coldly calculated to be only enough to [...]

Oh man, this hurts my heart. I don’t know what else to say, it is so totally unjust. Thank you Jeremy for doing this for the rest of us. You are a brave soul. I only hope that the American people will become deserving of your selfless act.

I just watched an interview by Bill Moyer of Jill Stein and Margaret Flowers. Both are physicians and very politically savvy. I was very impressed with what they had to say. They have both left their practices to work full time on social justice and environmental issues; Here’s a link to their interview: http://www.ourworldreport.com/path-to-justice

imo, the judge certainly should have recused herself. But in as much as the DoJ has a track record for making ridiculous, over-zealous rulings and getting away with it, I don’t hold out much hope. Only a few judges remain who aren’t classist a-holes & those honorable justices are pressured into doing the wrong thing [...]

  • Thanks Jessica for this well documented post. Better that we know, of course. However, in as much as the powerful never willingly give up their power advantage, it all seems disturbing and overwhelming in the sheer pervasiveness of the surveillance/police state. No doubt it will get worse, maybe much worse before people wake up en [...]

It is heartening (a little) to find that so many share my take on this meeting. What amazes me is that whatever bubble these so-called elites call home is so oblivious to what the rest of us think. This may be our ace in the hole, if we have one. Whatever we do, they won’t [...]

Thumbnail What Advice Could Kissinger Offer It is difficult to trust the judgement or the veracity of what the Secretary of State John Kerry says. If it weren’t bad enough that his talking points don’t explain the real reasons he wants to drop missiles in Syria, the point is further made by the fact that he found it useful or [...]

Thank you. I have written 3 posts (2 at FDL), gone all over the Internet posting comment after comment, and a bunch of tweets. My premise was/is simple. Of all the players involved, it was Assad who had the least to gain and the most to lose by launching a chemical attack. The best replies [...]

I spent quite a bit of time searching online to confirm the story of the 2003 photo of rows of white wrapped bodies. All I could find were several sites that posted the story but no credible firsthand evidence. Logically, it would seem that Kerry could easily have found any number of horrific images that [...]

  • I absolutely agree. A bunch of lies and liars. I also don’t believe for a moment that Assad is behind the gas attack. Why would he? The utter stupidity of launching the attack when the inspectors are 10 miles away, makes his culpability suspect. Not to defend Assad, he’s a terrible human being but I don’t think he’s stupid or suicidal.
