firedancer commented on the blog post Graham, McCain, Ayotte, And King Put Out Statement To Remove Boston Bombing Suspect’s Rights
whoa! convicted already? what about facts? All I’ve seen is a couple pictures, all I’ve heard is a confused, conflicted story line. Sorry to hear, again, that all it takes is an accusation to send you away for good.

firedancer commented on the blog post The Sinking Middle Class
great link, thanks!
“The middle class is the upper twenty per cent of wealth, minus the Plutocrats.”
So we have to look way up to find the mythological “middle”….no wonder we can’t find it! -
firedancer commented on the blog post The Sinking Middle Class
I think the term “middle class” has become meaningless. Taking a clue from your title, perhaps the only classes left are the “sinking class” and the “ruling class”?

“Halfway where?”
Not sure where we’re headed but our conveyance sure looks like a hand basket.
I can’t help thinking of all the encouragement and help the FBI has given other potential “terrorists”. I can’t help wishing that I could believe that what I am told is actually true. I do know, that I do not know the facts of the Boston bombing and doubt that few do. -

firedancer commented on the diary post Chained CPI Means You Can’t Have Nice Things by masaccio.
“The fifth mention of Chained CPI in the Budget explains that the switch to chained CPI will decrease the deficit by at least $230 billion over the next 10 years” Social Security is self funded and does not add to the deficit. Cuts to social security will decrease quality of life for many, and even [...]

Don’t forget, the cost of living is

“oil sands”….sounds so much better than “tar sands”, doesn’t it? That is why the oil companies only use this phrase.

firedancer wrote a new diary post: Fannie Mae and Bank of America Continue Evicting Our Neighbors
Although the homeowner has an approved mortgage loan (from a local bank), Bank of America and Fannie Mae have yet to let him buy “back” his own home. Instead, an eviction order will be in effect, as of March 21st. This story is like so many others, involving fraud, robo-signing, a mortgage counselor who defrauded [...]

firedancer commented on the blog post CPAC attendee from NC defends slavery at minority outreach panel; asks for return to segregation
…When asked by ThinkProgress if he’d accept a society where African-Americans were permanently subservient to whites, he said “I’d be fine with that.”
Follow up question…what about vice versa? -
firedancer commented on the blog post The Aaron Swartz Town Hall & the Future of Online Activism (#SXSWi #AaronSXSW)
“Taren, also urged us to balance activism with self-care”
I use a phrase learned from GA, “step up, step back” to encourage fellow activists to allow themselves to do what they can (step up) and then allow themselves to take a break (step back). I know this was not the original meaning of the phrase, but it seems to be well understood when used this way.“activists drawn by a single issue (like corporate money in politics) realize that the problems go far deeper”
The more I network with other groups and other activists working for justice, the more I realize we are all having the same conversation. Justice is justice and it doesn’t matter if you are talking about social, economic, or biosphere justice, I believe it is all connected and that we are all working for the same cause!Great article Kit, thank you!

This is a great film about people, watch it if you can! We were very fortunate to have Emad Burnat and his family visit Traverse City this past summer. Five Broken Cameras was awarded Best Film at the Traverse City Film Festival, held here every summer.
Thanks to both Emad Burnat and Guy Davidi for telling this story so well. -
