free market libertarian commented on the blog post Give the Texas Secessionists a Boat!
I know it started as a tongue-in-cheek post though believe it or not many people seriously repeat those same views you posted as seriously held beliefs of the Union/Congress/Powers of the federal gov’t.

A state may only secede with the consent of Congress and confirmation of all other state legislatures– or by revolution.
So you’re saying the states are slaves to Congress and the other states?
A Supreme Court case confirmed this after the Civil War. Doesn’t matter what 31% of Texans or Ron Paul thinks.
Can you cite the case or provide references to it?
Perhaps Texas could negotiate that consent, but I imagine we’d demand some pretty harsh terms (e.g., we’ll keep all mineral rights, the port of Houston, etc.).
Texas doesn’t like it, they and what army are going to do anything about it?
If King George III were alive today I’m sure he would be proud of you for your dictatorial totalitarian attitude.
I lived in Austin for five years; traveled widely around the state. Many wonderful people there; think we ought to keep them
Sounds like slavery. Do you (i.e. your use of “we” implies the other states own them. I know you didn’t really mean it that way but it still implies the other states own them.)
Also, I seriously doubt that we, the people of the United States, would want to abandon our fellow citizens who are Latino and African-American residents of Texas to the tyranny of what would be the Republic of Texas.
It’s not your call (meaning it’s not under the control of the other states unless you’re implying Texas and Texans are slaves to the other states.)

Well if you don’t want them to secede I assume you have a good argument for them not to. I think they can survive very well with their oil industry (assuming they still have a large oil industry. Haven’t checked that out.)
Subsidies? I don’t think oil subsidies matter one way or the other.“Preservation of the Union” Why? Is it nostalgia? I don’t think preservation of the union is a good reason.

I agree the Texas textbook industry is an insult to intelligent people everywhere. My concern is why do people want to hold Texas in the union against people’s will?
@demi Well his post didn’t sound serious at all.

No disparaging intended. Just curious what the arguments against secession are.

What are the arguments against Texas seceding from the U.S.? Seems you’re article is not a serious piece and just makes fun of people who have different opinion than yours or the status quo.

I don’t really know what the issue is between ondelette and you but I just skimmed over some of his comments and he’s correct about a few things. One: I don’t think you or most members of FDL understand the internet or it’s technology. It’s apparent in the posts you and others write about the [...]

Your comment suggests that what’s written at emptywheel.com is not important and irrelevant?

That’s been my experience at emptywheel.com though I didn’t know that bmaz is the moderator there and he was the one deleting comments. Though I generally agree with much of what Marcy Wheeler writes there I would like to know if someone in the comments has a different view or opinion. In my opinion emptywheel.com [...]

free market libertarian commented on the diary post Jethro Bodineism Watch – Rand Paul Edition by Bill Egnor.
I don’t think Bill Engor based his diary on Glenn Greenwald’s blog and the Think Progress blog didn’t say anything about Obama’s extra-constitutional illegal operations so I’m giving Bill the benefit of the doubt ion this one.

I agree it does apply to everyone and also government officials are not exempt from following the Constitution even in situations where they act in a foreign country and upon foreign nationals. My point was that he may have been talking about people visiting the US from nations like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, etc not people [...]

For #5 The way I understand it is the bankers in the nations in question have lent money to various cartels in those countries. In other words they took a risk, just as any business venture is a risk of various degrees, and they didn’t make their money back and faced the possibility they might [...]

I don’t agree with his view on this matter but some people have pointed out that he was probably referring to foreign nationals visiting the US since he says “deported” which wouldn’t mean he was talking about US citizens.

free market libertarian commented on the diary post Censorship at emptywheel.com. Is this what the progressive movement has become? by free market libertarian.
Thomas Jefferson wrote the following text in 1798 which is his interpretation of the Constitution:
http://www.constitution.org/cons/kent1798.htm
At the very least it raises important point for debate. This isn’t a dictatorship where a tyrant pronounces his/her decree and all must follow as if slaves.

I disagree. Thomas Jefferson, I think, would also disagree based on the following text which he wrote in 1798 on this very issue:

What does this have to do with Ron Paul?
That is the interpretation of the U.S. Constitution according Thomas Jefferson. He wrote the The Kentucky Resolutions of 1798 and that is how he and many others interpreted the Constitution.

I resent your accusation! Please don’t accuse me of sexism. Maybe I can call you illiterate or ignorant since you didn’t read, or ignored, where I wrote
“In case anyone is wondering, I didn’t mean to suggest that either Jane Hamsher or Marcy Wheeler had anything to do with it.”
