GA_spoken commented on the diary post #Occupy Oakland: Justice May Never Get Here by hotflashcarol.
Very moving post, thanks so much for sharing this story with us. It’s good to know the community isn’t just accepting this police behavior because it’s a lot easier to do that sometimes.

GA_spoken commented on the blog post NBC’s Meet the Press Features Phony “Debate” Between Two Deficit Hysterics
Durbin isn’t clueless and also it isn’t accurate to say he is deviating from what the Democratic Party is about. This notion that “real Democrats” don’t act conservative or something is misleading and only creates a sense that the Dem party is viable or worth saving. According to this logic, no Democrats are “real” Democrats. I think people are referring to FDR when they say “real Democrats” but the problem is none of the elected Dems care about trying to live up to FDR’s legacy. it is only the supporters of the party who want FDR style governance. Sorry to break it to you, but the Democratic party ain’t gonna start even enacting FDR style-reforms because supporters want them to. The banks and the pentagon tell Democrats what to do. Check the results.

GA_spoken commented on the diary post Dept of say-it-aint-so: Paul Krugman, Obamabot by donkeytale.
Rule #1 for Obamabots: It’s NEVER Obama’s fault. Public services have been dramatically reduced, wars rage, rights continue to be taken away, but there is no way that it could be the presidents fault. Hopefully there’s lots of people who see through the charade cause as we get closer to November there’s gonna be more [...]

GA_spoken commented on the diary post Reich’s case for reform only emboldens the 1% by GA_spoken.
I guess I’d ask you and PascoBill to just think about how many regulations it would take to rid us of speculation, middle man taxes on goods, and other costs related to the profit motive that are pushed on to consumers at the market or result in financial fraud. It’s tempting to think that good [...]

I can see why my comment makes you want to ask but my position is there should be no more capitalism at all so the answer is irrelevant. Good question but it would be for someone who favors continuing capitalism in some form.

GA_spoken commented on the diary post Reich’s case for reform only emboldens the 1% by GA_spoken.
Why should we base what we want on what’s easiest to achieve? There have been times I’m sure in the past where people wanted things that were viewed as impossible but went ahead and fought for it anyway and won. We can’t limit ourselves to “practical” solutions only.

Communism and democracy are not mutually exclusive. I think communism would actually be one of the most democratic ways for society to operate. I also sense a little hesitancy to use the word ‘communism’ as indicated by your last sentence. It’s true that McCarthyism worked in that it made the word communism essentially mean “anti-American [...]

I never said it was, but yeah it does get frustrating having people write off communism because of those past and present examples.

The Soviet Union example is complicated and often used to extinguish hopes of forming a society outside of capitalism. Sure, the Soviet experience had many things go wrong, but using 1950′s Russia as the definition of communism is problematic. The mistakes of past communist attempts will need to be studied so as to create more [...]

GA_spoken commented on the diary post Reich’s case for reform only emboldens the 1% by GA_spoken.
I say reforms are temporary because they are more temporary than revolutions for instance but it is true that everything including the rule of the 1% is technically temporary as is could end any day. I agree that hate isn’t a good thing to cultivate in movements even if it’s directed at the 1%. I think [...]

All capitalism, whether small business or large corporation, exploits it’s workers taking the value they produce through their labor and only giving some of it back to the worker in the form of wages. Small businesses like dry cleaners do this much less than Wal-Mart but they still do it some. Your neighbor who worked [...]

GA_spoken wrote a new diary post: Reich’s case for reform only emboldens the 1%
Robert Reich really likes capitalism. He tells us this in his recent column ” The Answer Isn’t Socialism; It’s Capitalism That Better Spreads The Benefits Of The Productivity Revolution. ” Robert’s number seems to have been called to go to bat for the Dems against those pesky “purists” defined as those who continually force powerful [...]

GA_spoken commented on the diary post “We Need to Make a Ruckus”: Robert Reich on Democracy Now!, today. by Alan Maki.
Thanks Alan, highly recommended. The key is catching the bulls*** like this early and highlighting it so thanks again. Just one thing. I think you may mean the KOE instead of the KKE in Greece. The KOE has been much more militant in standing up to the Troika (banking powers from around the globe) who [...]

GA_spoken commented on the diary post More on Obama and Rosa Parks by David Seaton.
While Democrats may be preferable to Republicans (although it could be argued that Obama has passed more conservative policies than any republican in the past) voting for them in the Fall only legitimizes them. By voting for them you are endorsing them. I don’t need candidates to be exactly like me in order to vote [...]

The bottom line is that Americans are the only ones who can change America… not the president.
Which is why people who want change shouldn’t vote for the president.

GA_spoken commented on the diary post More on Obama and Rosa Parks by David Seaton.
Obama has done multiple things to curtail civil disobedience and has attacked people and groups simply for disagreeing with the government. Phoenix Woman, did you not know this? So many people get manipulated by campaign photos and speeches like this. It’s sad to watch but for the people who buy into it, ignorance is bliss.

GA_spoken commented on the diary post From Rosa Parks to Barack Obama by David Seaton.
Agree and the “achievements” listed for Obama’s presidency are not that great. The Autoworkers themselves were the ones who lost out when the big 3 automakers were rescued by having to take union concessions. He ended the war in Iraq but this was against what he wanted. He was trying very mightily to figure out [...]

GA_spoken commented on the diary post Is Neoliberalism Fascism? by athena1.
I think fascism and neoliberalism are different ideas but not mutually exclusive either. We need a world where workers democratically control the wealth they produce, or communism. The question of biological evolution, while interesting for discussions sake, isn’t relevant to the question of the type of world we need to create IMO. This is because [...]

GA_spoken commented on the diary post A vote for Pres Obama…! by SenatorGovernment.
Good diary but it’s important to make clear that it is this one communist group, Communist Party USA, that has endorsed him. It makes no sense because Obama is a mega-capitalist but apparently the-once proud CPUSA think the Dems are the way forward. They are basically the most conservative “communist” group out there. Just wanted to [...]

GA_spoken commented on the diary post How does an interconnected global economy avoid a global recession? by dakine01.
Capitalism will always produce major recessions like we are going through right now (though often they aren’t this bad), so to answer your question I would say “abolish capitalism.” Capitalism is the Crisis is a really good movie on this topic (watch here).
