My pleasure, Sarah. :) They do get unhinged rather quickly don’t they? I’d probably get the same epithet as you do. Shorthand for “we can’t deal with your arguments”, mostly.

Yes, I do think we have far, far too much democracy already. Gotta do something about that, before it gets out of hand. :)

Tom Lehrer had an old song — “Send the Marines”.

The bridge of that song reads:

    For might makes right
And ’til they’ve seen the light
    They’ve got to be protected
    All their rights respected
Till somebody we like can be elected

    Fitting, no?

  • Would that it were so. By that time the mercenaries guarding their gated villas will simply mow down any of the billions who try it.

  • Well, hey, I’m sure Ol’ Abdie was way better than any of the other guys, right? Kinda like Obama vs. [insert Republican-bogeyman-du-jour here].

  • They’ll throw in a few severed hands if it’s really good.

  • Kinda the point of the invasion really. Message to tin-pot dictators everywhere: stay on our side, and we stay nice. Step out of line, we fuck you up and your country along with you and kill you.

Here’s a hint, TSA/DOJ geniuses: Terrorists don’t actually, y’know, call themselves terrorists. It’s people that don’t like them that call them the T-word.

Our tax dollars at work, gentlefolk.

Meanwhile, across the pond (no, not that pond):

Jerusalem Post: Analysis: The victory of Syriza in Greece is bad news for Israel [via European Jewish Press]

    Oh, no!

The radical left-wing Syriza party … has promised to stop with austerity and defy the European institutions, is also widely viewed as having a clear anti-Israel stance which has promised to “cancel” austerity and defy the European institutions.

Huh? Methinks someone needs an editor.

Syriza’s ranks include an array of leftists ranging from Marxists to Greens.

    Horrors! (clutches pearls)

The party has constantly identified itself with the Palestinian cause

Oh Noes! They must stop doing that!

and its program includes a demand for abolition of Greece’s military cooperation with Israel and the support for the creation of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders.

See? They want to destroy Israel by allowing the Palestinians to have 22% of it.

Alexis Tsipras’ party colleagues and his own inner circle have repeatedly attacked Israel and the “Zionists” claiming that they are not anti-Semitic, just ”anti-Zionist.”

Because everybody knows that if you criticize Zionists, you’re not really criticizing Zionists. It’s as if they think that Zionist is a dirty word or something, which is kinda weird, given that Zionism is the founding ideology of the state and Israeli elders regularly decry the decline in “Zionism” among the lower ranks. So what could you do if you just wanted to criticize Zionists? Call them, I don’t know, Dunderwhoosies? No, critical discussion of Zionism must ever remain off the table. (Full disclosure: I count myself as a Dunderwhoosie — excuse me, Zionist — even though my beliefs aren’t quite what you might imagine when you use the Z-word.)

    I do wish they’d get a grip….

(PS: I just love how the JPost increases its hit count by refreshing its own pages every 3 minutes or so….)

Well, there ya go… just too much democracy, I guess. Gotta do something about that.

She, obviously, doesn’t see herself as being one of “us.”

And she’s absolutely right about that.

    Well, well, well.

Ol’ DiFi has finally met a spying program she doesn’t like.

Color me shocked, shocked that it’s the one that’s spying on her.

As MannyGoldstein wrote over at Daily Kos, Dear Senator Feinstein: What part of Operation Spy On Everyone did you not understand?

It is not necessary to resort to the linking of conspiracy theories to have a healthy skepticism concerning government pronouncements.

    +200. Thanks for that.

  • But that’s all the firebaggers’ fault, you know. If only they’d been nicer to him, he wouldn’t be all Nixonian-paranoid now…. /s

And while I know I have my share of critics out there, I don’t focus on the negative stuff. I just don’t pay much attention to it. Most days I barely skim through the comment section…

Now that sounds familiar. Um, let’s see, what was it again? Oh yeah, this:

I hear the voices, and I read the front page, and I know the speculation. But I’m the decider, and I decide what is best.

Clarifying. Actually we “on the left” aren’t calling them “public policy and citizen action groups.” Because, y’know, they’re not.

But I guess that’s what the “librul” NYT is calling them now….

He and his brother Charles are known, on the left, as the billionaires who bankrolled the public policy and citizen action groups that helped cultivate the Tea Party.

Oh, so that’s what they’re calling them now…..

Well, at least until Walker gets a chance to sell it to one of his cronies. /s

“In the public interest”, of course….

  • Someone doth protest a wee bit too much, methinks…..

  • Notice you didn’t attack any of my other progressive bona fides.

And I notice you apparently see nothing wrong with the egregious way you attempted to “demonstrate” those supposed bona fides. You don’t consider it a mistake or anything worth amending or retracting, to say nothing of apologizing for.

When you attempt to establish “progressive” bona fides by saying “Hey, I worked for that Dem candidate — oh, did you know he was black too?” you kinda, um, how shall I say, undermine yourself. It has that oh-so-lovely “Some of my best friends are Negroes” quality to it.

The sarcasting, patronizing tone of the rest of your “argument”, both in the post to which I’m replying and elsewhere in this thread, pretty much speaks for itself.
