  • I suppose they’ll have to shoot him now. After all, nothing is more Republican than killing the bearer of bad (and truthful) news.

  • This is the exact reason I didn’t worry about the Tea Party groups in the long term. Much of the anger of the Tea Party is aimed at the criminals of Wall Street and K-Street and the bailout of the bankers. In fact, Occupy and the Tea Party have an intersection of interests on financial [...]

Look out Thomas Friedman! Pat Robinson’s nipping at your heels and going take away your title as champion of the tortured metaphor.

  • Don’t be ridiculous, Mr. McCullough, you’re not important enough to kill.

Be nice now. Crybaby Jamie Dimon is President Obama’s favorite banker.

The public middle finger extended to Goldman-Sachs by former employee Greg Smith confirms what was pretty much already known about Goldman-Sachs and the rest of the Wall Street economy wreckers. As such, it’s somewhat anti-climactic especially given that financial planning consultant Chris Markowsi of the Watchdog On Wall Street website left Wall Street, in disgust [...]

  • The AFL-CIO has decided to endorse President Obama for reelection. I can stop walking on eggshells and start breathing again! The Obama Administration has been pretty much a total disappointment for labor issues but with a parasitic vulture capitalist like Mitt Romney as the inevitable Republican candidate, it really wasn’t a hard choice. For working [...]

    Amen, brother!

Barack Obama has no credibility and nothing he says is to be believed. Barring any actually display of a spine, from this point on Barack Obama should be regarded as a fraudulent flim-flam man – just like Bill
clinton the NAFTA king. Interestingly enough, President Obama wants to enact more NAFTA-style trade deals just like Bill the Closet Republican. Pretty ironic given the whole Barack Obama vs. Hillary Clinton battle in the 2008 Primaries

It seems that Barack Obama is just as willing to spit upon working people as Bill and Hillary Clinton are.

  • There is only one question for Progressives – Have you had enough yet?

The difference between the Republicans and the DLC-dominated Democratic Party is slight and only cosmetic. The Democratic Leadership has only one trick – to create the horror of the Republicans winning. But if Democrats behve like Republicans (very) slightly watered down, then what really is the threat?

Progressives can watch the Republicans try to dismantle the social safety net in one sweeping pass or they can watch their so-called Democratic friends dismantle the social safety net piece at a pace only slightly slower than that of the Republicans. The end result is the same, unless Progressive are willing to take a different approach.

    Let the Republicans win!

In 2012 let the Republicans win. Let the Democratic Party go down in a way they’ve never gone down before. If they don’t get back up, its no big loss. Essentially the Pelosis, Reids, Nelsons and Doggetts of the Democratic Party figure they’ll probably survive no matter. They’re quite willing to sacrifice a few freshmen and the occasional Russ Feingold, as long as they get reelected. Let them al fall. You don’t have to vote for the Republicans – simply sit out an election.

Until the Democratic Party as whole believes that they cannot survive doing the same old free trade song-and-dance, all Progressives are going to get are the same old free trade song-and-dance.

Have you had enough yet, Progressives?

  • Norquist realizes the time is ripe for this angle of attack, but no one should be fooled by it. The anti-tax stance takes is just the what the traitor Grover Norquist uses to gain influence within the Republican Party. Norquist’s prominence has long made the Repulican Party’s National Defensce claims a total joke. Norquist has long been a front man and gofer boy for heavy duty terrorists from the Middle East. This is how Norquist really made his money.

During the George W. Bush era, when you heard about a Middle Eastern visitors to the White House who later were arrested or put watch lists, they were almost always associates of Grover Norquist. This doesn’t get mentioned as much as it should because Norquist spreads a lot of hush money around. One of the few that has is Frank Gaffney. I don’t often agree with Gaffney, but his research in Norquist’s terrorist associations is well researched and certainly probably isn’t winning him any popularity contests within the Republican Party. One such article (and there are several) is http://canaryinthecoalmine.typepad.com/my-blog/2011/01/important-article-from-2007-by-frank-gaffney-khan-job.html.

Reading a book about Ronald Reagan is an appropriate metaphor, since in 2011 Barack Obama will have the Republican Congressional majority he has wanted all along. Starting in January he can really start putting the screws to the working poor and the unemployed with the cooperation of his Republican henchmen. Bipartisanship, indeed!

As an Independent voter, I can tell you the strategy definitely isn’t working. As horrible as thing as it might be, the Republicans have the Democrats on this one. For all their faults (and they are many), the Republicans are largely who they claim to be. The Democrats on the other hand, talk progressive but by their actions betray Progressives. To their credit, the Republicans don’t leave much in the way of surprises – it’s always about a tax cut.

The Obama administration has bailed out the Wall Street banked (a la Robert Rubin), passed a so-called health care bill without a public option – which is just mandating people buy a crappy product, and is damned and determined to ram through another job-killing trade deal with Asia (a la Bill Clinton). With dubious accomplishments like that, its no wonder that many Independents and swing-voters prefer that boring certainty of the Republicans – at least they know what to expect.

I’ll keep this first one short. In a year’s time, Firedoglake has gone from [...]
