Modern history shows that Fascism is a particularly terrible political form of Capitalism. In other words, the emergence of fascism out of bourgeois democracy occurs within one and the same capitalist economic framework. That’s the way it happened in Italy, Germany, and now it is happening in America. It has been said that Democracy is [...]

Much of what you say is helpful, but a larger and stronger safety net does not make a mixed economy (only a so-called mixed economy, as you note). You can’t mix capitalism and socialism in a meaningful way; they are fundamentally opposite ways of organizing economic life.

The joint action of the President and Congress concerning tax cuts for the rich is a shinning example that fellow capitalists agree (Democrats and Repuglicans) that making America and the world safe and secure for financial investors is job 1 (under the cover/lie of not wanting to raise taxes on ordinary folks). Don’t expect any [...]

My dad was also in the CCC. He’s still alive at 90, surviving his WW2 experience, which is fresh in his mind. I’ll never get involved in electoral politics again on behalf of any capitalist, Democrat or Republican. If Cindy runs, or someone who understands that Cap. has to go runs, then count me in. [...]

Workingclass, In an earlier Diary, “Words Of Wisdom Between…” I gave 5 or so examples of “actions” that facilitate the political education that is needed in America. Chief among them is the establishment of virtual/internet communites of individuals who discuss and analyze American politics, who spread the word that Capitalism has to go, and why? [...]

In the past I’ve always referred to 21st Century Socialism in order to acknowledge the important things you mention. The terms Ecological Socialism have been used, and there’s no doubt that the Greens have helped in this regard, but abolishing the capitalist economy (in favor of public ownership, cooperation, and sharing) is a fundamental demand/goal [...]

FDR did not push through Congress the WPA, Social Security Administration, Bank Reform (FDIC), Minimum Wage, and other goodies because he was an intelligent and compassionate man–although I don’t doubt that he was such a person– but rather he was willing and able to provide these things because there was a strong Socialist movement in America [...]

Exactly, the working class has the power to stop the production process, and in this sense We are a potential revolutionary force objectively, but not yet subjectively. What’s lacking is the class awareness of this essential role in history.

The main problem is not that Obama is weak, or unprincipled, but that he’s basically a private sector guy. Remember, he taught law at the University of Chicago for a decade, where he was profoundly influenced by Milton Freidman and his Chicago Boys, some of whom became key members of his economic team following his [...]

Yes, there’s way too much use of old language and concepts, as we talked about before, and I hope that We will continue to be new voices on FDL and other venues. I’ll check out Kasama. Until next time…

Part of the reason why S/C is so unpopular in America is because it’s so misunderstood. A third party candidate without a clear anti-capitalist message will not help much in this regard, but a socialist candidate could educate folks, but I completely agree with you about the present state of S/C organization and movement in [...]

Would you consider supporting her if she ran for President on a basically socialist program? We agree on the goal of 21st Century Socialism, but moving things toward this end needs to be further discussed, I think?

Inherently unjust–absolutely! Capitalism pays people to be “used” in that it pays them less than they actually work and produce. That’s exploitation that is built into the system.
