graciesdaddy commented on the blog post Rev. Irene Monroe: Obama linking Selma to Stonewall divides black community
Some African Americans, however, felt “dissed” by the President’s speech. The linkage of their civil rights struggle to that of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) Americans did nothing to quell their dislike of the comparison. The fact that it was spoken by this president made it sting more.
UH… are these people “dissed” by being linked to the — I presume entirely lily white — women of the “Seneca Falls Convention” of 1848? Are they to be shunned and disassociated as well? For anyone to separate themselves from the Greater Human Family is both deplorable and I would venture quite anti-Dr. King.
Ain’t right.

What I was thinking. Equality might be better served if Lively were allowed to expose himself as the ass he truly is.

graciesdaddy commented on the blog post It’s never ‘two easy’ to learn the hard way…on camera
That happened on FaceBook this week from one of our local TV stations. They were promoting a story on the 5 o’clock news about a local winemaker in Alabama, referring to him as a “vitner.”
I just commented back with an “Uh… Guys? The word you’re looking for is *vintner*…” and supplied them with the appropriate Wikipedia page link.
They removed the original “promo,” made the change and didn’t say a word. I just left them a “Touché” comment on the new one.
Next time, I’m going to go catty with a statement like: “Good thing you’re not PRINT journalists!”

graciesdaddy commented on the blog post It’s hot in much of the U.S. — how are you faring in your area?
It’s 98° at 2 PM CDT today. Has been in the 102° to 105° range last week. The electric bill is over $200 this month and I’m having to water the herb garden everyday.

While we’re sharing and reporting, feel free to report this go-preacher to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office SVU for advocating child abuse. http://www.ccsonc.org/SVU.htm
That’ll put a stop to him.

Well-researched and well-presented, Scott!!
I think, though, that his downfall is only going to occur when George and Paul Cameron are caught in a janitor’s closet blowing each other.
But that’s just me.

graciesdaddy commented on the blog post The sexual hangups of religious and social conservatives are a danger to American society
And the way to do that is to indoctrinate people with the idea that it’s dirty. (Which is not all that difficult, given that the organs of procreation and elimination are pretty much the same. How’s that for Intelligent Design?)
And, as the old engineers’ joke goes: “Three engineering students were sitting around the dorm. One of them says, ‘You know, God must’ve been an engineer—how else could he build the human body?’ And then he said, ‘I think He is a mechanical engineer.’
“One of the friends says, ‘Yeah, why?’ and the first guy says, ‘Well, look at how the body works—all those muscles and tendons and ligaments. Only a mechanical engineer could a put that togther.’
“The second guy says, ‘Mebbe, but if God is an engineer, I think he must’ve been an electrical engineer. I mean, it is electricity that makes your heart work and your nerves—your muscles wouldn’t contract without electricity. So, He’s gotta be an electrical engineer.’
“The third guy looks at his two friends. ‘Those are interestin’ theories,’ he said. ‘But I know for a fact you’re wrong.’
“‘Yeah, okay, then what kind of an engineer was God?’ asked the two friends.
“‘He had to be a civil engineer,’ said the third guy. ‘I mean, who else would put a waste-water treatment plant in the middle of a recreation area?’”

graciesdaddy commented on the blog post NC: should I stay or should I go?
Heritage — down’n'dirty, gut-level HERITAGE — is nothing to sneeze at.
It wasn’t until I was in my 50s that I learned — through a handy-dandy lil’ website called Ancestry.com — WHY Momma was to defensive and “tied” to her home county: She had four generations of her family, including all 4 of her GGrandparents buried in the same soil those people were clearing and tilling since 1820-something!! My investigations led me to discover that two of my GGGUncles signed the county charter in order for the state to recognize its existence!
Not a background to sneeze at! I am, quite frankly, working toward getting BACK to that area — maybe even my childhood home, if all works out — and let THEM know that, if anybody’s going to be leaving, it won’t be ME!! I’m not only back where I “came from,” I’m back where I BELONG!!
And I defy anybody to dispute that.
