For me it’s just become too obvious that if you refuse to listen to more than half the human race how can you possibly be speaking the truth?

That is certainly possible. When women’s colleges run by nuns were merging with men’s institutions the nuns really got screwed. There’s a long bitter history to this conflict.

greenbell commented on the blog post Federal Judge Explains Racist Obama Email By Saying It Wasn’t Meant to Be Public
I have served on a Federal jury. One thing that surprised me was how much contact the judge had with the jury. Based on that experience, I don’t know how anyone knowing about this judge could serve in an unbiased manner on his juries. No way.

Their bottomline sometimes overcomes their scruples. My Dad was dying in a Catholic hospital and they were more than happy to evict him to a hospice — they all but threw him out the door.

Yup, we need to see a lot more of those bishops. They should be asked to expand upon their looney tune sexual theology. Let them explain how infertile couples must be policed lest they engage in non-procreating sex. Let them explain how they’d like the federal government to enforce no sex after menopause.

I’ve served on both federal and county juries. It’s not unusual to be excused for any number of reasons unrelated to you. But if they do interview you, appearing to be too rigid, may get you rejected.

I guess we can’t blame the governors until we find out if Obama was serious about any of this in the first place.

Here’s an example. After a week when women were being asked to give up healthcare, what is Senator Klobuchar’s top priorty? “Klobuchar Introduces Legislation to Ensure Memorial Rifle Squads Can Keep Their Preferred Ceremonial Rifles” http://www.klobuchar.senate.gov/newsreleases_detail.cfm?id=335967& Where she stands on healthcare we know not. I predict the D’s will run her for President for she [...]

Obama is no worse than the party. He’s no worse than Biden on this issue. And how about my Senator Klobuchar? Anyone hear a peep out of her on this issue? Nope, standing where she always stands – no where and for nothing and for no one — but with a Minnesota NICE smile.

And you are right about Santorum. Peter doesn’t seem to have grown up around Catholic men. I did.

No one is imposing contraception on the bishops. The bishops are trying to force pregnancy on non-Catholic women.

Those who won our freedom fought both the King and the Church of England. The first amendment aims to defend us not from one or the other but from both.

Suburban or urban Philly? The RC (Republican Catholic) Church is becoming a country club. The Twin Cities 1% wanted another exclusive prep school under some sort of “religious” auspices. When they couldn’t find any posh mainline Protestants to build one they funded one for the RC archdiocese.

greenbell commented on the blog post Catholic Bishops Want More Concessions
I don’t need to attack them personally, but I do know they are beyond clueless about how emotional issue this can be for women.
Pregnancy is the sum of all joy and all fear for women. Pregnancy for most is their greatest achievement or their greatest failure. This is something a spouse may come to understand. But the aged, supposedly celibate, all male clergy? NO!! They have no clue.

Well, they’ll probably get the gang of 5 on the Supremes to rule that yes, blood transfusions can’t be covered in government health plans thus negating all government health plans.
What a triumph for the the RC (Republican Catholic) Church – tens of millions even hundreds of millions with no health coverage.
-
greenbell commented on the blog post Catholic Bishops Want More Concessions
It’s been obvious over the last few election cycles that the bishops have become robotic tools of the Republican party. We saw this in the Twin Cities in 2010 when someone funded hundreds of thousands of anti-gay DVDs for the archdiocese to distribute right before the election.
But contraception is a dangerous issue for them. They need all those bequests from old Catholic widows and they’d be surprised to hear what 80 and 90 year old women have to say about them!

greenbell commented on the diary post The White House’s Dangerous Dance With the Birth Control Mandate by RHRealityCheck.
He needs to know this isn’t an issue to play games. Women have an entirely different emotional temperature on this issue. Even old devout Catholic women have a particular contempt reserved for the bishops on this one.
-
greenbell commented on the blog post GOP Fully Committed to Public Fight on Birth Control Regulation
The trick is to spin this against Republicans and frame them as extremists against contraception. But he’d have to grow a pair to do that.
Message to Obama: millions of Catholic women have been waiting for someone strong enough to face down the bishops. Maybe you’d like to defer to Michele?
