Who is paying your check? The Koch brothers or Peterson? You left out the part that they threw everyone but the top 0.1 percent under the bus the last 30 years and then ran them over again with the Bush tax cuts. You can whine about how much harder every one worked the last 10 [...]

My grandmother, who was about 35 years older than Letty, always felt that only people who were going to die went to the hospital. It was interesting to me to find many rural homes with the only running water going to the kitchen sink. Several times I noticed the prize mantel piece was the WWII [...]

Life expectancy at birth as a statistic is problematic. Often used to distort social security expectations from the 30′s to now. For social security the most important number is life expectancy at full retirement, age 65 or 67. Not as much improvement as the “entitlement” deniers would have the naive believe. A low number may [...]

  • Any thought on why Zimmerman is not being prosecuted for crimes against W9? I don’t know if any of you all care, but once there is a reasonable possibility that TM initiated the physical interaction and was on top of Z, then Z will be found innocent? It has no bearing on this incident, it [...]

  • Lame duck congressional session, Peterson and the Koch brothers been paying for it for months…
Well if the deficit hawks and cat food commission and 0.1 percenters are all on board about how SS is an entitlement and not “insurance” then why is it that the SS is only a tax on wages, and so nicely regressive starting at dime 1 of labor income?
If you say corporations are people, then I say tax them as people and we will have a new 15.2 percent tax on all personal and corporate non wage income.

That is precisely the point, the sidewalk chalk exercise is no different than any other event one might take children to for example a charity walk a thon. Except for the illegal jack booted actions of the Austin government. Some comments posted here bring to mind the Federal and private contract efforts to disrupt opposition [...]

Hey in Oregon the taxpayers pay to put up wind farms and solar energy collectors, At least the holes in the ground Shilling put his bucks in aren’t killing any angry birds or making super fund sites.

The economic arithmetic of putting the gun to your head and pulling the trigger is real easy to figure. If there was no subsidy would they do it?

Here is a geeky tip, the required reserves are about 1 percent of bank deposits, just take the Federal Reserve Board reports of total bank deposits and compare to the 90 Billion or so of required reserves in the weekly H-1 report. It did not use to be that way. When I was taught economics [...]

  • “putting more low-income individuals either without health insurance or into the individual market.”

The individual market for health insurance is running 200 to 600 a month per person with no drug coverage, 20 percent copay and a healthy deductible in the Oregon Medical Insurance Pool.

Jack that 500 percent for California “high risk”, read any pre existing condition.

I suspect most low income people without state aid do not buy individual insurance so being “dumped” into the individual market, means going without health insurance.

Why bother talking about Brooks, he is a paid shill of the 0.1 percent. Anyone supporting 13 percent tax rate Mitt while they have or are paying a higher rate in taxes is incapable of determining their own self interest much less anyone elses. I’m more than tired of caring Brooks and Romney and their [...]

Indeed, one wonders when the globalization of finance workers will leave us all entertained by off shored debt collectors.

    http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/lms/labour-market-statistics/january-2010/index.html

The UK reports over 6 million of 26 million private sector workers are in the financial and business services sector. But this is a natural process when continual advances in technology and productivity mean fewer and fewer workers are needed in resource extraction, manufacturing or even service industry.

The big job losses in the Northwest US forest industry did not occur when they ran out of trees to cut. They occurred when they modernized the mills.

Well if the conficker virus was made by the US and infects millions of computers in the US, one would suspect that the US government has “broken and entered” millions of American homes.

Which makes one wonder how the right wingnuts offering to sabotage, cell phone hack, and computer sabotage get their methods of operation. Are they running the scams in the US through an off shore center aka a non US entity?

The end of the Bush tax cuts maybe a 1% win win, a massive increase in taxes paid by low income folk, reductions in earned income tax credit, etc etc, . The 1% already threw the 2nd through 5th% under the bus with the alternative minimum tax.

The 1% dont pay taxes, they avoid them. By selling their stock and real estate, but in tax adviced way such that it is not income.

The DHS and FBI phone conferences with the mayors should be a psychological study in some cognitive bender similar to the students “electrocuting” their victims.

Go figure, the Obama Executive has been playing the same tune, the Washington DC police take the clothes off the pipeline protesters and put them in unheated jail cells. Makes you wonder what the information and policy flow is from the Obama Executive down to the locals.

And the campus cop must have been envious he didnt have a rocket propelled tear gas grenade to shoot horizontally to fracture an innocent veteran.s skull.

The Occupy movements are making it quite obvious who is bought and paid for by Wall Street. The Portland Oregon police chief just spent over 600 officers making all of about 48 arrests while delaying 3 hours to send an officer to a rape victim. And the chief has been talking about running for mayor. [...]
