  • Excellent reporting by KG. This mental health revelation is new to me and gives dimension to understand Manning’s frame of mind. I’ve long wondered what prompted him to risk his freedom, or if he even understood the risks at the time.

So he was in a desperate place, not unlike a great many soldiers who want out (or need it) but can’t get out. It seems he even tried the classic “Section 8″ angle, made famous by Cpl. Klinger in M*A*S*H. The military clearly had ample chance to mitigate Manning’s extreme behavior by getting him help, but didn’t because as usual, they go full bore in pushing the troops for everything they can get. And it blew up in their faces. The extreme behavior only escalated. You can’t push people that are unwell.

Oldfatguy, you are an astute observer of how complex electoral politics have gotten in the last cycle, but I think you’re missing the bigger long term vision of the founding fathers. First off, if you are a progressive, you have to face the reality that you don’t have the votes or support or party strength [...]

I didn’t vote for Obama and why in the world would you assume that?

eblair, there are diverse voices here at FDL. Personally, I have never been censored by them at all and I can point to many great anti-Obama pieces. David Dayen rips the President a new one constantly with highly critical reporting on the financial mess, just as one example. They (Jane?) promoted this piece from MyFDL [...]

Yeah, it’s odd to see him scrounging for new ways to detract from Obama. He would do well to take a cue from progressives, but the trouble is, he’d indict himself. A great example of this was when Ryan Grim of HuffPo and Michelle Malkin actually agreed Obama should be impeached for holding and interrogating [...]

  • Thumbnail Years behind the left and groups like theĀ  Electronic Frontier Foundation , Sean Hannity is just now beginning to complain about the the government being too intrusive. Hannity pretended today not to know the government is already collecting our calls and emails, but he was in a snit to hear that Democrats have proposed new telecommunications rules [...]

  • Why is no one asking Issa whether Ashley Swope worked for him or not? She is alleged to have asked the “BornFreeCrew” who first reported Weinergate to dig up dirt on Obama and report it back to Issa’s staff. The samegoes for Issa’s aide Seamus Kraft who refuses to divulge the nature of communications he had with Mike Stack of the BornFreeCrew who was also a porn site webmaster and self-described “pervert”.

Everyone gave Issa a pass when he said he wasn’t aware of his staff colluding with the bloggers who first discovered Weinergate and no one knows how. But no one ever denied his staff wasn’t doing it! Can we ask Rep. Issa if Ashley Swope worked for him?

Thumbnail Sean Hannity has been for years claiming that tax breaks giving extra-sweet low rates to the rich have been necessary to create jobs. This has brought economic debate in DC to a head, particularly following the failure of the Supercommittee to find any agreement after Republican members insisted on preserving tax breaks for the wealthy. [...]

The voter is not to blame if a candidate doesn’t keep a promise once elected. You are right that too many Americans vote against their own interests but this is mostly Republicans and mostly thanks to coordinated propaganda. For example, the super-committee talks broke down because the GOP would not raise taxes on the rich, [...]

  • Tues Nov 29, 2011 Today a caller from New Jersey complained to Sean Hannity that he is no longer on the side of the middle class, no longer looking out for firemen, cops, teachers. Hannity said he used to be a middle class person, and that all his friends are middle class people. The caller [...]

Thumbnail Hannity and Joe Lieberman Lie About Extent of OWS Anti-Semitism and Lawlessness On Wednesday Sean Hannity began an interview with CT Sen. Joe Lieberman describing the Occupy Wall Street movement as “taken over” by rapists, drug dealers, nudists and “tons” of anti-Semites. Hannity’s wording suggests these undesirables set the direction of the movement, influenced others or [...]

  • Thumbnail Fox and Newsbusters claim the lack of media coverage of Anti-Semitism at Occupy Wall Street is due to media bias, while showing even worse bias and utter hypocrisy. Fox, News Corp and others have characterized about three or four anti-Semites seen at protests as somehow representative of the views of a significant number of protesters without [...]

It’s great to see those groups coalesce like that to combat propaganda on solid legal footing. Since News Corp fights this grassroots movement by smearing protesters personally, we need to keep reminding people that they are blatantly avoiding the discussion of the wealth disparity ruining the economy.

  • Thumbnail Discussing #OccupyWallStreet, Hannity asked an arrested protester Thursday if he opposes Obama allowing access to major campaign bundlers in apparent exchange for a sweetheart federal contract in the Solyndra scandal. The caller said he did oppose Obama and the “incestuous relationship” between government and their contributors. When donors fund a political campaign, they force the [...]

If you have a cat that catches mice once in awhile but has ruined every piece of furniture in the house, you have to make a decision on balance if you’re better off with or without it. If you have to give away millions to get hundreds, is it worth it? If you cave in [...]

The article says the EITC would be a much better way to go so I am all for middle class tax relief and reverting to Eisenhower levels of taxation on millionaires and billionaires because it’s fiscally conservative and will lead us back to sustainability. Look, they defined the middle class by making the bottom of the bracket $171K, not me. They purposely bring it down to the middle class to lump themselves in with small businesses, but look how even that failed after the disparity ballooned. So those “upper middle class” folks would see an increase if nothing else [...]

Not so much. The result of ten years of these cuts have been enormous growth for the rich at the expense of the middle class in income, entitlements, regulations and future prospects. When you say the middle class had “some benefit” it’s like saying it’s too bad you broke your neck but at least you [...]

The middle class saw single digit “relief” but rampant unemployment, cuts in benefits, cuts to the public sector schools, firehouses, roads and bridges. They basically flatlined if you adjust for standard of living and the rich increased their wealth, especially the top 400 richest Amercians who can peel off tens of millions to buy elections [...]
