I have an extremely awesome job, one that is just about as close as one can get to a dream job in this vale of tears. (For me, anyway–I realize that I write about economics for a living sounds to many people like their own personal version of hell.)
Megan, you do not write about economics. You write about your own damn self. Every single time.

Helen commented on the blog post Ross Douthat’s “The Lottery”
…in a world without the death penalty, Davis probably wouldn’t have been retried or exonerated. His appeals would still have been denied, he would have spent the rest of his life in prison, and far fewer people would have known or cared about his fate.
Instead, he received a level of legal assistance, media attention and activist support that few convicts can ever hope for.
Alternate shorter Douthat: Troy Davis was a lucky, lucky man.

OOO good story. I worked at Columbia when Bush was elected. We had worked previously on MSM issues and issues about needles and HIV. When Bush was elected our funders (and friends) at CDC and NIH told us NOT to put MSM in the title of grants because they would be kicked out of the running at the very beginning of the selection process.
Sad.

I went hunting for mangoes in the comments and lookit what I found:
A commentor writes:
They must be destroyed.
To which McCain responds:
Amen. This is what most Republicans refuse to confront: The Democrats are sworn to the absolute destruction of the GOP, while the GOP imagines that permanent coexistence is possible
HO. LY. COW.

Here’s how bad the Turner campaign is: they keep calling me (robo; I never pick up) and leaving me messages that this is the most important election EVA. Then they have Ed Koch call me (I actually like Ed) and whine like a son-of-a-bitch about what an idiot Weprin is.
Here’s how bad the Weprin campaign is: I actually mistakenly picked up a live call from them and they asked if I was gonna vote for Weprin. I said that I’m not sure but most likely I’ll write in Weiner’s name. That’s right, I am sooooooo pissed that somebody else decided that I cannot choose my own congressperson that I’m probably gonna do that. The Weprin guy started yelling at me about what a pervert Weiner is. Yeah – that’s gonna get an undecided voter over to your side!!
Morons all.

Believe you me, they are now combing through the supplied docs for an uncrossed “t” or undotted “i”–
They specifically asked if Schedule B was there. Schedule B is the list of contributors. That is what they are up to. Tomorrow we will hear about all the commie pinko socialists muslims who contribute.

Me? unbelievably it’s Ireland. Who were one of the first countries to be downgraded. I fool myself by saying that I do not care about their politics and the pols here are killing me. Probably after 6 momths there I’ll be just as pissed off. But at least I’ll have universal healthcare.

I think that what happens in Wisconsin tomorrow will be a big referendum on what I do with my life. I have some options that other Americans do not have and if I exercise them it will break my heary
