They also want you to buy 90 days at a whack, so it makes it even harder on people with fixed incomes.

    People with guns kill.

Until we get a fundamental grasp of that fact and stop listening to the NRA, all we can do is bury our dead, mourn their loss, and prepare for the next massacre.

Hippie Joe commented on the blog post CFPB Report on Student Loan Servicing Shows Same Predatory Tactics as Mortgage Servicing

    2012-10-22 10:16:12View | Delete

It turns out that other loan servicers, in other contexts, do exactly the same thing.

Yes, because the same predators that ran the mortgage scam are running these, and they will continue to do so until we start sending them to jail.

The financial system is beyond repair. It needs to be gutted and rebuilt from the ground up.

I wouldn’t expect to see this gain traction until a breakup of the EU goes from “possible” to “probable”, and even then it will be reactive and not proactive.

The lifestyles of bankers are more important than the EU and 50 years of peace.

I suspect that the “Zeus Effect” is quite heady and intoxicating and, therefore, probably impossible to control. I recommend that drone strikes be made illegal on these grounds alone.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. And, as Charles Piercer recently alluded, Obama is quite like Zeus, wielding Hellfire missiles like so many lightening bolts from the sky.

    Absolute power, indeed.

    2012-06-22 14:59:11View | Delete

And it will continue to be a problem, even if the banks keep enough homes off the market to constrain industry and lower months-of-supply.

And, of course, the fact that the banks are doing such a great job of maintaining all these houses they’re keeping off the market is only going to make things better, too. So, the solution is…more free money for rich bankers!

    2012-05-24 11:56:19View | Delete

You have to wonder why the DNC decided that this fight wasn’t worth fighting. Maybe they would rather have a whipped and demoralized populace, too.

Hippie Joe commented on the blog post New York Times Reporter Calls Out Administration for Bragging About Austerity

    2012-05-24 11:52:40View | Delete

Not only does Obama have to fight the hysteria created by being the first black president, he also has to fight the perception that he cares more about the jobs of bank CEOs that he does about jobs for the middle class.

“If you are a distressed family coming off of a foreclosure, the last thing you need is escalating rental rates,” Rick Sharga, executive vice president of Carrington Mortgage Holdings, told the trade publication Housing Wire last month.

Yes, but if you’re a distressed family who has just had their credit destroyed by a foreclosure, are any of these “white-glove slumlords” going to rent to you? The market for credit-worthy renters is just as tight (or tighter) than credit-worth home owners.

Isn’t this how bubbles form? The people who stand to make the most hype the positive while down playing the negative until the bubble bursts and the everyone runs around shouting “who could have known?”

Hippie Joe commented on the blog post Volcker Rule Tightening Just the Beginning of a Financial Reform Strategy

    2012-05-22 12:12:49View | Delete

regulators have yet to finish writing the rule and haven’t determined whether the trading would have violated the draft version of the rule that has been released

I think you mean the lobbyists have yet to finish writing the rule, not the regulators.

Hippie Joe commented on the blog post Almost No Regular Americans Rank Deficit As Their Top Issue

    2012-05-22 12:06:28View | Delete

The bizarre obsession by mainstream media and political elites with the deficit during an employment crisis isn’t based on public outcry, nor is it drive by the market, given that our government borrowing costs are near historic lows.

    hat’s your 1% right there.

So the jig is up, then. The vaunted working group is really nothing more than a repository for existing cases and investigations with a public relations patina applied to them

Did you really think it would be otherwise. The grip of the financial industry on the government agencies that regulate it is nearly complete. Until that changes, nothing will happen, and no one will ever be held truly accountable.

Hippie Joe commented on the blog post Wisconsin Recall: More Resources, but No Change in Strategy to Defeat Walker

    2012-05-18 10:31:06View | Delete

but the DNC has rebutted the criticism on their end, saying that they have given significant funds to the state party in Wisconsin this year, that DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz will help Barrett raise money later in the month, and that they plan to make available voter lists and OFA volunteers for the effort.

Whatever. The very fact that the DNC doesn’t consider this to be one of the most important races this year shows just how out of touch they are. But that won’t stop them from shifting blame if Walker wins or taking the credit if he loses.

Schneiderman in particular, and the Justice Department, have pushed back on criticisms, claiming that the task force remains committed to pursuing the investigation wherever it leads.

bla bla bla heard it all before whatever.

Hippie Joe commented on the blog post CA AG Kamala Harris Rejects Governor Brown’s Attempt to Raid Foreclosure Fraud Settlement Funds

Only by the voters giving the legislature the power to tax to pay for the spending the voters mandate can California get out of the hole the anti-tax free lunch tooth fairy economic policy the voters have made Constitutionally necessary.

Exactly. I wonder how much worse things will have to get before the wake up a realize what a mess that silly tax rule has made of California?

Hippie Joe commented on the blog post Greece to Hold New Elections

    2012-05-15 13:12:09View | Delete

Given the choice of new elections and rule by technocrat, I think the Greeks made the wise choice. “Rule by Technocrat” is merely corporatism by another name. Greece is a democracy. Let the people choose their path, not some non-elected technocrat.

Hippie Joe commented on the blog post Common Cause Sues to Have Filibuster Declared Unconstitutional

    2012-05-15 13:06:12View | Delete

I could also picture the judiciary ruling against this suit on the grounds that each chamber is allowed to make its own rules, but as part of that decision the Court reaffirms that a simple majority of senators already has the legal authority to change their rules and eliminate the filibuster at any time.

The Supreme Court will rule whichever way helps the Republicans.
