Protests in Tunisia: “I am deeply concerned.” Protests in Egypt: “I am deeply concerned.” Bahrain: “I am deeply concerned.” Libya, Algeria, etc: “deeply concerned.” Holy moly! Do politicians have some sort of manual from which they pull this crap?
It’s so cliche, so unoriginal, that being “deeply concerned” about something has become totally meaningless. I can predict Obama’s/Hillary’s response to the NEXT protest that arises. To the best of my knowledge, they haven’t chimed in about the protests now taking place in Iraq, but I’d be willing to wager $100 that Obama will be “deeply concerned.”
Oh, and that he urges both sides (in Bahrain/Libya/etc.) to “exercise restraint.” Yes, protesters, please restrain your bodies from taking bullets! Stop assaulting your governments with the most lethal weapon of all: PEACEFUL PROTEST. As if both sides are equally violent. Holy moly!
Barry, you’re either for democracy and self-determination or not. You’re either in favor of supporting brutal dictatorships (so long as they’re our “allies”) or you’re not. I might not agree with which side you take, but I’d respect the fact that you at least TOOK a side, and stopped hedging. We need to know if our country stands by the ideals of freedom, democracy, and self-determination, or if we’re hypocrites of the highest order.
