Hypatia1 commented on the blog post Rhode Island House Passes Marriage Bill By Overwhelming Margin
Is there a chance it’ll clear the Senate committee and get to the floor, though?

Hypatia1 commented on the blog post Radical-Right Anti-Gay Pastor Admits That The Sky Hasn’t Fallen With Passage Of Marriage Law
Better wording would be “Randall’s statement prompts the question: What was all the fuss about?”
To beg the question means to assume the conclusion in the premises.

Hypatia1 commented on the blog post America the Beautiful: ‘Riled Up’ by Fox News, bum rushing gun stores, and lack of male aggression and strategic thinking
A woman who is disgusted by the mere existence of women… how sad is that?
45 beers has the same amount of alcohol as 45 shots of distilled liquor or 9 whole bottles of wine. With several times the volume. That’s more than enough alcohol to turn anyone crazy. But anyone so vastly beerlogged is better suited to extinguishing fires instead of starting them.

Oh my God that is so beautiful. Thank you!

Hypatia1 commented on the blog post Liberty Counsel threatens to sue if California’s Governor Brown signs ban on ‘ex-gay’ therapy
“We don’t believe there is such a thing as a gay teen, because no teen is mature enough to define himself as gay.”
How insulting to young people! The age group that we librarians call “young adult.” That statement is not only insulting, it’s utter horseshit as anybody with a lick of common sense could see.

Hypatia1 commented on the blog post Around the country, students demand removal of Chick-Fil-A from campuses
Funny, it doesn’t seem that long since Huckabee was promoting veggies and speaking out against greasy unhealthy chain fast food. But it was about 10 years ago he went on his health food kick, right? Now he seems to have reached a different assessment of which side his political bread is greased on.

Hypatia1 commented on the blog post Pope to nuns: stop worrying about the poor and sick, focus on the homos
The CDF is the Vatican goon squad that sucker-punched the nuns. The CDF is the new name given to the Roman Inquisition. This is literally the modern Inquisition being used to silence women.

Hypatia1 commented on the blog post Colorism to the max: skin whitening product for private parts
I’m blessed with a Mediterranean olive complexion, which I love and would not change for all the world. But at my age I’ve developed some discolored areas on my face, which people of my genetic heritage are sometimes susceptible to. I prefer to even out the skin tone. But I use gentle concealer makeup for that. It doesn’t work perfectly, but I’m at peace with that. The idea of bleaching or otherwise chemically assaulting my skin is horrifying to me. Especially after seeing those SA pics. And lay the hell off of my pussy with that shit!

Hypatia1 commented on the blog post The epic downward spiral of Susan G. Komen for the Cure: how to #FAIL (updated w/Komen ‘apology’)
It goes to illustrate the arrogance of power and the snafu principle. When you get so high and mighty, you’re at greater risk of making bad decisions because the only people you allow close to you are those who tell you what you want to hear.

Hypatia1 commented on the blog post Student files lawsuit claiming ‘homosexual indoctrination’
Correction–it has the ł (the Polish letter L with a slash through it) and the original pronunciation is gwo-vat-ski.
-
Hypatia1 commented on the blog post Student files lawsuit claiming ‘homosexual indoctrination’
Even though in the original Polish it’s pronounced glow-VAT-ski.

Glowacki sounds like it could be the name of a phosphorescent plastic toy from Wham-O.

Hypatia1 commented on the blog post Q Of The Day: What To Think — What To Do — With Visual Gender Cues
In the real world, there is no “outside of the real world.” Hypotheses of unreality don’t interest me when it comes to living my life as a woman. Only the cold hard reality of looking out for my own security every day is what matters.

Hypatia1 commented on the blog post Trans Activist/HRC Board Member Meghan Stabler And Marriage Equality
For a trans woman to renege on her own self and say “I am a man” is a complete contradiction of her struggle to transition and be her true self. It’s a damned lie and it sets back all of us! I bitterly, vehemently, reject this tactic and urge all trans people to shun it.

Hypatia1 commented on the blog post Safety First: A Call to note the oft-forgotten on National Coming Out Day
I was all for it. I indeed came out at work on National Coming Out Day a few years ago. In less than 4 weeks, I was out of a job. The reason given was that being trans was classified as a mental disorder, therefore I was ruled crazy for having transitioned. They gave me that reason in writing, just because they could, because the laws didn’t protect me from discrimination.

Hypatia1 commented on the blog post One Way To Tell That Trans People Are On The Religious Right’s/Social Conservative’s Radar
How depressing… I have to wonder how some of you can stand a daily news diet of this poison.

Hypatia1 commented on the blog post This weekend’s private LGBT shindig + photo with Barack Obama = $35.8K per person
A clutch is a small handbag. So a VIP clutch a small handbag passed out to participants as a souvenir, stamped with the Presidential Seal and the date. Sometimes they come stuffed with freebie makeup or condoms or whatnot.

Hypatia1 commented on the blog post Keeping the memory of Carl Walker-Hoover alive as Bachmann says ‘Anti-Gay Bullying ‘Not A Federal Issue’’
To oppose anti-bullying legislation out of nothing but homophobia is plainly evil by any definition of the word evil. Unalloyed, unmitigated, obvious evil. Shame on Bachmann.
