I don’t understand how people Ezekiel with his flawed logic about the health care system gets space in a major media source. “…health care providers and insurance companies are both powerful enough to prevent domestic reform and to maintain protectionist barriers that prevent people in the United States from taking advantage of lower cost care [...]

Secy Geithner has hinted that he plans to leave when budget discussions are finalized.
Do you have a recommendation for his replacement? Someone outside of the Wall Street cabal, but not a freshwater type?

PK – Why do you think people like Paul Ryan and others in Congress working on the budget aren’t learning a lesson from the European austerity policies, which are failing and for which there is beginning to be a serious backlash?

Along with that, why doesn’t our Congress see that the humane European health care systems are compatible with capitalism?

I understand that VSPs don’t like to take advice from others, but when something on a large scale does or doesn’t work elsewhere, isn’t there a lesson to be learned?

I usually read the comments on his articles from the Times’ readers. Every one is negative and points out the flaws in his reasoning. The problem is that the readers’ comments aren’t in the printed copy of the Times. He should be embarrassed for being publicly excoriated for every column. But he just keeps on [...]

Don’t these people learn ANYTHING from history?

I got the impression that the amount EFSF is releasing will be just enough for debt service.
That will put the Greeks under extreme pressure in the next election to vote for the pro-austerity, pro-euro faction.

Thanks for the recap and views in other countries. Hollande’s enfants started something to break the austerity logjam.

Finally having a useful conversation, is right.

What would be the mechanism for instituting Eurobonds? The charter of the ECB would have to be changed if it loaned directly to governments, instead of through the banks.

I would also ask if Cameron and Osborne are listening. The UK is in recession again. “Expansionary austerity” is a joke.

Merkel’s Party is also losing in local elections there.

It’s time for the Eurozone to wake up. The Treaty needs to be renegotiated.

In memoriam: After years of health problems, Facts has finally died.

Facts is survived by two brothers, Rumor and Innuendo, and a sister, Emphatic Assertion.

Services are alleged to be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that mourners make a donation to their favorite super PAC.

I accidentally turned on Sean Hannity’s call-in radio show. Some woman with a southern accent was lamenting the War on Oil. “They are taking away our freedom to use God-given natural resources to fuel our cars and homes.” She emphasized that GOD gave us oil to use and the Obama administration is just taking away another of our freedoms by promoting alternative fuels.

    Man, Oh, Man!

The only reason this shouldn’t be taken as a perfectly serious suggestion is that some people can’t handle debt. I’ve heard stories of lottery winners who went bankrupt after a spending spree. However, I am very responsible with finances and I’ll be happy to sign up for a loan from the Fed. They can check my [...]

    Shine a light….
    Why is pro-industry usually anti-people?

This reminds me of the light shown recently on the Heartland Institute’s effort to discredit climate change. They also are whining because some confidential documents were stolen revealing their donors and plans to teach their anti-climate change tripe in science classrooms.

    Very good analogy, PW.

Goldberg was also declared persona non grata, but then he backtracked a little.

The propaganda and the pressure is intense from the Netanyahu government. People are very afraid of the “antisemitic” label.
