By: inoljt, http://mypolitikal.com/ The Republican Primary race is essentially over. Rick Santorum, having finally hit the end of his rope, has announced a suspension of his campaign. It’s going to be Romney versus Obama in November. Rick Santorum was never a really strong candidate. For the longest time he polled at 1% in Iowa. Only when all [...]

In a previous post , I wrote about a very revealing video of Mitt Romney. This video was filmed without Romney’s knowledge during an off-the-air conversation. In it, Romney talks sincerely and frankly in a way which we do not normally see him. Here’s the video: http://youtu.be/IFkaCji-UDA?t=17m4s The first half of the video has the combative radio [...]

Thumbnail In 1996 scholar Samuel P. Huntington wrote a famous book titled “The Clash of Civilizations.” Huntington postulated that after the Cold War:

In this new world, local politics is the politics of ethnicity; global politics is the politics of civilizations. The rivalry of the superpowers is replaced by the clash of civilizations. In this new world [...]

inoljt wrote a new diary post: How Taiwan Is Different From America

    2012-04-09 17:39:19View | Delete

Taiwan is one of the main success stories of East Asia; from a country of mostly impoverished farmers, it has become a First World country with living standards comparable to America. This is something which I actually asked of a Taiwanese friend. Compared to America, how is Taiwan’s standard of life? Said person answered that [...]

Mitt Romney did it again. In a recent remark to voters in Wisconsin, the Republican frontrunner made a joke about closing factories in Michigan . Here’s Mitt in his own words:
One of (the) most humorous stories, I think, relates to my father. You may remember my father, George Romney, was president of an automobile company called American Motors… [...]

No. Obama’s race hurts him more than it helps him in general.

The 2012 presidential election is shaping up to be an election highly focused on economics and class. It seems that one of the main themes of the election will be class, or the gap between the rich and the poor. At this point, it’s pretty likely that the main Democratic attack on Mitt Romney will [...]

inoljt wrote a new diary post: How Rick Santorum Ended Up Getting 8% in Puerto Rico

In my previous post , I wrote that:
In Hawaii, white and Asian Mormons in Laie ended up giving 93% of their vote to Mitt Romney. Put any group under a particular set of (usually adversarial) circumstances, and it will end up giving 90+% support to a certain side in an election. Hawaii’s Republican caucus is a perfect [...]

It was late in the night of Tuesday March 13th, 2012. For most people it was just another normal day. For Americans in three states, however, it was election day. The good folk of Alabama, Hawaii, and Mississippi were voting for the Republican 2012 presidential nominee. Alabama and Mississippi voted first. Republican frontrunner Mitt Romney [...]

    2012-03-26 21:50:11View | Delete

Also, I think that it’s absolutely right to say that the labeling of Southern evangelicals as racism is very stupid. If a significant number of people in a party call you a racist, are you going to vote for said party?

Yeah, you’re absolutely right. There’s a lot of evangelicism amongst high-income Southern Republicans as well.

This post will look at the demographics of America’s governors by place of birth, as of March 2012. All in all, this series on the demographics of America’s governors examines: Age Place of Birth Race and Gender Race and Gender and Political Party The following map indicates the birth place of each of America’s governors. 2012-03-23 20:52:44View | Delete
It’s pretty clear that Mitt Romney has a Southern problem. The Republican candidate has consistently lost southern states. Indeed, it’s probable that if the South didn’t exist, then Mitt Romney would already have the nomination sown up today. It’s also pretty probable that Romney will be the Republican nominee for the 2012 presidential election. At [...]

    2012-03-19 19:25:50View | Delete

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists is a magazine dedicated towards ending nuclear weapons. It’s most famous for the “Doomsday Clock.” The magazine describes the Doomsday Clock as so:

The Doomsday Clock conveys how close humanity is to catastrophic destruction–the figurative midnight–and monitors the means humankind could use to obliterate itself. First and foremost, these include nuclear [...]

This is part of a series of posts analyzing how Mitt Romney’s 2012 coalition has changed from his 2008 coalition. Hopefully such analysis will provide clues as to Romney’s performance in the general election. A previous post , which I will refer to multiple times, looked at Iowa. This post will analyze New Hampshire. New Hampshire To do that, [...]

inoljt wrote a new diary post: A Very Interesting Story About Cheap Chinese Goods

    2012-03-04 21:46:49View | Delete
China has long enjoyed a reputation of producing cheap goods. This has generally been a negative reputation; cheap Chinese goods are accused of stealing the jobs of many otherwise happily employed workers. Here is one city devastated by cheap Chinese imports:
…the city can ill afford to lose more commerce. For centuries it enjoyed high levels [...]

Sometimes the least noticed things show something quite revealing. Such is the case with a recent Times story. This story, titled “ Russian Official Suggests Weapon Caused Exploration Spacecraft’s Failure ,” was one of those stories which people read and then forget in a few days. It didn’t deal with an important event, it wasn’t followed up [...]
