Ivan Oleander wrote a new diary post: Oh the weather outside is frightful, here in Arkansas
Over 100,000 households are now without power in Arkansas and that number is rising by the minute. I hope everyone has a way to stay safe and warm. -

These types of events is not all that rare. Usually it is only fishermen who find out about the fish kills and often birds don’t die over populated areas. You are right in saying that we do not know for sure and will not until the test results come back for the fish and birds, [...]

Not sure how you can begin to make those statements after starting off with “…I don’t know anything about the birds or the fish…”. The only thing that relates the two events is a possible combination of weather events happening withing a short time of one another. The first event being over an inch of [...]

I am not having much luck finding many weather records but I do remember it being unseasonably warm (60′s & 70′s) Thursday thru Saturday those conditions may have been caused by an inversion.

I will look into it but my understanding is that High Altitude lighting or hail might have been the culprit and the fireworks simply helped to force the birds into flight and disorient them. However I don’t see how they could have gained enough altitude to be affected by whether not occurring at ground level. [...]

Pollution and climate change are a definite reality but I doubt time is ending in the eminent future. However humanities time may be cut short by our own actions and inactions. On the bright side the planet and many of its species will most surely outlive humanity. If anything I look at the end of [...]

Yes four to five thousand red winged blackbirds fell dead and dying from the sky over Beebe, Arkansas around 100 miles east of the fish kill but the incidents are most likely unrelated, though it is one heck of a coincidence.

The Freshwater Drum fish may act as a biological indicator of pollution, like in the gulf they where testing baby shrimps to check the pollution levels. Some species are more susceptible to certain toxins than others. I too am still waiting for conformation from the tests of the fish that died. “The diet of the [...]

From what I can tell the two events are unrelated, but it is surely one heck of a coincidence. The bird event happend around 100 miles east of the fish kill, the day after the fish kill but since the birds all fell within a 1 mile radius of one another it is unlikely they [...]

I am starting to see more stories about the massive fish kill (around 100,000) that occurred last Thursday on the Arkansas River in NorthWest Arkansas. All of these stories suggest that disease is the most likely culprit for the kill. Yes, fish kills are a fairly common event, but not ones as large as this. Even if disease did play its [...] -
Ivan Oleander wrote a new diary post: If You Can’t Beat ‘Em Kill ‘Em? Two Off-Duty Little Rock, Arkansas Police Officers Kill 67-Year-Old Man after Entering His Apartment
Two Off duty Police Officers DONNA LESHER and Tabitha Gurley McCrillis entered an elderly mans apartment and then where rushed by the man; according to the two officers. Lacking the strength to overpower him and the common sense to wait for backup. The officers shot Eugene Ellison twice, killing him. Backup arrived just in time to witness the shooting. [...] -
Ivan Oleander wrote a new diary post: The Colonel Ibro Ayouba Affair: Customs, Corruption, Attempted Murder, and a Family Caught in the Crossfire
This is personal, it concerns the life of someone I love, her family and her father who I believe to be a political prisoner in Niger. Colonel Ibro Ayouba was a high ranking customs official in Niger and I just found out today that my girlfriend has been keeping a secret, one I cant begin to fathom. Her [...] -

If you really think the benefits outweigh the costs then by all means, enjoy. It will just yield support to the corporate establishment. I mean imagine how much money is made while tons of pollution is created so that folks not just you can celebrate the holidays with “hot bourbon n coca cola, cloves, allspice [...]

Ivan Oleander wrote a new diary post: Call Me the Grinch, but Perhaps You Might Like a Link or Two…
Maybe I just really dislike Christmas lights , but what purpose do they serve? Those lights are a pain to put up not to mention an unnecessary expense when your probably going to need that savings. So, if you add tacky looking and additional burdens placed on the environment. It leaves one asking the question; why not just leave the lights down? Hopefully [...]
