I’m going to come out of left field with some mellower stuff that might not match your tastes but, hey, why not?

AA Bondy – Think a younger Bob Dylan. Smokey broken voice singing about pain, suffering, and dying Americana. He opened for Dr Dog a few years back and I thought his performance was more intense than Dr Dog’s (which is saying something, at least as far as indie-rock intensity goes).

The Bad Plus – A three-part “jazz” group that plays some funky, infectious stuff. Definitely not really what you think of when you think of “jazz trio”.

Dr Dog – They new(ish) album, “Shame, Shame” is pretty chill. I don’t know if you’ve ever listened to them before but they have a good thing going on.

Hope one of those piques your interest, I’ve been in a mellow mood all fall/winter.

We’ve done ourselves the amazing favor of turning Awlaki from a low-level propagandist into a valiant mujahadin fighting the American infidels. Our decision to assassinate him simultaneously increased his world-wide reach while also increasing the likelihood that he will be mourned as a martyr in the event we do hit him with a missile. Why do we always seem to possess the innate ability to shoot ourselves in the foot? I came to expect this stuff from Bush, but it really seems surprising to see so much of it coming from the Obama administration.

It’s cool Spencer, didn’t you hear Obama say that “combat” operations will be over in 2014? Look at how well that’s going in Iraq! Asides from the continuous IED strikes, sniper attacks, checkpoint bombings, VBIEDs, revenge killings, mortar strikes and night time raids, “combat” operations are “over”. How could you even question our intentions in Afghanistan? I’m saddened at your lack of faith in our leaders’ sincerity.
