If 2010 taught me anything it was how much more important the state houses and congressional races were. If you control those things you don’t really need the white house. I hope to see dems take those races a lot more seriously this year. I don’t expect them to, which means it will be up to the outside progressive groups. Fortunately we have some really good groups already out there doing the good work.

Jon, I disagree with your last sentence. I think you did a pretty good job of it right here.

I’m almost 52 and I don’t understand how banks work but I’ll guarantee those young people at Occupy do.

You mean the world is not going to end this year?

    DAMN

  • Gee. A religious institution engaging in political activity without fear of consequences such as loss of tax exempt status. What a shock, huh?

I was told at the time that while the discussions of what to do were kicking around the Pentagon a real gung-ho Marine Colonel, left over from the Vietnam era, decided he was going to go get the hostages and be the hero. Now keep in mind this was a different time in the armed services. There were still a lot discipline problems left over from Vietnam and things were pretty loose. He got together some aircraft and some men and off they went.

Trying to re-fuel in the desert in Iran at night they were not using any lights and had no night vision equipment. When they tried to take off they ran into each other and were killed in the explosion. It was tragic and unnecessary.

    In defense of Jimmy Carter

He made the call and I’m not talking about those Marines who died in the deserts of Iran. I was active duty Air Force at the time. Parts of my squadron were sent TDY to a little place called Michael Army Airfield. Sound familiar to anyone? It’s a little airsrtip in the middle of nothing next to Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah. When we arrived we were told that we were taking part in a DOD approved joint Air Force/ Army mission to rescue the hostages. It was while we were in Utah that those Marines died. The hostages were moved and everything we had been training for was moot. We went home. To this day I don’t know if any of this has ever been de-classified.

You will never here Carter talk about this. Other than to protect the memories of those who died, I don’t know why.

I’m really worried for the soul of Paul Ryan. Doesn’t he know that you can’t get into republican heaven if you deny the High Priestess Ayn. This is how it starts. Pretty soon he’ll be running around giving decorating advice. Asking his staff were he can get some of the good shit. The next thing you know he’ll be saying bad things about Saint Ronnie. It’s a slippery slope Paul is on and if we don’t do an intervention soon. By, say, November I fear he might hurt himself.

  • That is our greatest weakness. It didn’t use to be but we’ve had a compliant media that has lulled us to sleep for over thirty years now. The problem for them is it was a fitful sleep and we’re waking up now.

    And we’re not happy

  • I have to admit that I was stunned by this. I didn’t think it was possible for Republicans to surprise me like that anymore. The bold faced thuggery of the move is breathtaking. One of the two Republicans that voted it down in committee has such an obvious conflict of interest that it wouldn’t surprise me if it was actually illegal.

They have to pay a price in november from the state house to capital hill. That’s the rallying cry fellow firepups.

From The State House To Capital Hill!

    And fuck the White House

Agreed. Moving a new carrier group into the region is counterproductive with the possibility of unintended consequences. Especially in such a crowded waterway.

As for Iran getting a nuke, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they were feverishly trying to make one. That would be very bad for the region but the fear mongering about Iran transfering their weapon to some terrorist group is crap. They want one because they’re terrified that we will attack them if they don’t and we, of course, say we will attack them if they get close to getting one. ???????? Insanity

If any of you think we would have any progressive voices on any channel without Keith, your fooling yourselves. Without Keith there would be no Rachel, no Ed, no Lawrence, no Cenk, none of them. A rare and strong voice is now gone and I for one am sorely pissed.

He’s a non-white do-gooder. That’s enough to disqualify him, right. The fear that he might actually do a better job than any previous World Bank head is not surprising. Besides how can they continue to reap huge profits screwing over third world countries without one of “The Boys” running things.

I’ll bet you $10,000 they try to sabotage his efforts.

  • I am fucking sick to death of these bullshit games from Republicans. That’s all they do. They don’t have a clue how to govern. All they know how to do is blow shit up. They have to be made to pay a price for their wrecking ball approach to government. From the state house to the Congress.

The court will hold ACA constitutional for two reasons. 1) They want to protect to massive profits the insurance companies will make off of this law. This court always sides with the corporate interests and 2) doing so will prevent any movement towards single-payer for at least a generation.

  • Tragic but not surprising. When I first heard thi story a few days ago on TYT not only was I not shocked by the murder, I was more surprised that we were hearing about this at all. How many more times does this happen that we never hear about? Quite a few, I’ll wager.
