Ther’s got to be more than 2 pages redacted. 21 pages on PACER where they decided not to charge and only 2 on the JSTOR where they did decide to prosecute makes no sense.

Jesterfox commented on the diary post The Originalist Argument for Abortion Rights: Compulsory Childbearing During Antebellum Slavery and Its Relevance Today by RH Reality Check.
I have been saying for some time that the reason some people think abortion should be prohibited is that “You can’t let the slaves control their own fertility.” Some of my friends thought I was ascribing offensive beliefs to abortion opponents. Thank you for confirming my suspicions.

I watched the interview. While Bill say that PCS was weird, he also said it would work. I don’t think that his use of the word weird was meant to be a criticism, just that it was an idea that people aren’t used to thinking about. He also opined that some people would think that [...]

Jesterfox commented on the blog post Forgetting the Poor While Arguing About the Rich
You are using people who are not poor to argue that raising the cap on FICA taxes will increase the income gap between the rich and the poor. That just doesn’t work. If that’s the way that you’re going to argue, maybe you should talk to the Caterpillar. At least he said clearly that, as far as he was concerned, words meant exactly what he intended them to mean.

People making $150K are not poor.

Jesterfox commented on the blog post Forgetting the Poor While Arguing About the Rich
That’s ridiculous. It cannot possibly make the difference between the rich and the poor any larger. The poor are already paying the tax on every bit of their income. The rich and the wealthier middle are only paying the tax on their earned income up to the cap. Raising the cap can only take money from the rich and the wealthier middle.
If you want to argue that the rich will pay no more because their income is classified as unearned income and not subject to the tax, I would reply that most of them also have earned income greater greater than the cap. If that is not true, then perhaps the distinction between earned and unearned income should be eliminated.

The DMR wanted Obama to meet with it’s editorial board. He offered them a half hour phone interview, but insisted that it be off the record. He didn’t want anything he said to be quoted. It pissed them off. They felt that they were being stiffed. Its really rather petty of them.

I am a citizen. I make things and I buy things. To call me a consumer only, defames me. It denies that I contribute. It denies that I have rights. It is one step away from calling me an ‘eater’, a derogatory term used by Randians to describe the masses that they despise. Please do [...]

Jesterfox commented on the blog post Republicans Across the Board Pressured Over Ryan Budget
I don’t think you understood. I’m willing to give up my tax cut to get rid of the tax cut for the rich. What are you willing to give up?
Putting the middle class tax cut for a vote by itself pulls back the curtain. It let’s us know who represents us and who represents the 1%.
Mixing them together just muddies the water.
-
Jesterfox commented on the blog post Republicans Across the Board Pressured Over Ryan Budget
Obama has said 75% of the tax cuts went to people making less than $250,000. That’s why he wants to extend those tax cuts.
Let the tax cut expire. The whole thing. Then we’ll put the cut for the middle class up for a vote and see who votes against it.

Jesterfox commented on the blog post Republicans Across the Board Pressured Over Ryan Budget
Just because Obama says it doesn’t make it true.
Social Security is currently funded by the 12.4% payroll taxes every worker pays on their first $110,100 of income.
Removing the cap would be a fairer method.
-
Jesterfox commented on the blog post Republicans Across the Board Pressured Over Ryan Budget
The money invested in the bonds was used to fund tax cuts for the rich and wars without raising taxes to pay for them. Now, we are being asked to cut Social Security because it won’t be running a surplus anymore. There is no need to cut Social Security if you are willing to raise taxes to redeem the bonds. If you are not willing to allow the bonds to be redeemed, the money that the bonds represent has indeed been stolen.

Jesterfox commented on the diary post If the Bush Tax Cuts Expire, There’s no Excuse for Cutting SS and Medicare benefits by wigwam.
There is no excuse for cutting Social Security, whether or not the Bush/Obama tax cuts expire. The money for Social Security has all been collected in advance and lent to the government. Its still being collected. The only way to not have money for Social Security is to refuse to pay back the money that [...]
