One of the worst features of HAMP is the requirement that the mortgagor become past due on their mortgage payments, in order to be considered for the program. This one provision only exacerbates the problems of an already troubled person or family, in that it causes ALL their other expenses to increase (because of the decrease in their credit score): All insurance premiums are affected by credit scores, as are interest rates on credit cards, car loans and so on – even if their mortgage does get modified, the “hole” is already dug deeper. Very few mortgages are ultimately modified, and after months of having paid the anticipated lower payment, those mortgagors have become hopelessly past due when the lender demands immediate payment of the accumulated difference between the original payment and the temporarily “modified” payment. The entire programis a farce and a scam deliberately (it seems) perpetrated on homeowners, by those who claim to want to help. I see no reason the entire program is not being scrapped or entirely re-vamped. Shame on whoever designed this program – musta been the banks…

How is this news – the entire Republican party has always been “in bed” with the lobbyists, anyway; it’s only fitting that they be screwing each other, since they’re always screwing the rest of us!
